You judge people by how they express themselves. I judge them by the substance they use to express themselves. Another thing, I filter their mentality & by doing so I find too much of their rhetoric falls through the sieve & that's what most people pick up, hence the utter misrepresentation of people put on pedestals. It's even worse when there's a lot to be gained by feigned indignation & admiration.

The funeral is a much needed distraction from domestic and world events that have been plaguing leaders like Obama and our own PM. Another opportunity for diplomacy and self-promotion, whichever comes first remembering that all are politicians.

The Australian national flag being flown at half-mast for the day of the funeral is enough. I prefer to take that as symbolic of the end of apartheid.

Interestingly though, there are people in Australia who continually push for separateness for indigenous that is for all intents and purposes apartheid and the very opposite of what Mandela was fighting for. The Oz activists say they represent indigenous though. Regrettably the previous long experiment of indigenous self-autonomy (introduced by the Whitlam government) had very negative consequences for indigenous women and children, and also resulted in fraud, conversion of assets, loss and wastage of taxpayers' $$.

I noted ABC RN saw great significance in the fact that the UK and US had both lowered their flags some days ago, but the Oz govt had only sought to lower ours for the day of the funeral.
