I have heard various rumbling about this trade agreement but I do not
know much more.
However it seems that there is a 90 page chapter on intellectual property.

I have not yet read it myself but I thought it might be better if a
number of people on here read it at about the same time.
There are parts that increase the time patents of medicines and there
is even a provision to patent surgical procedures.
Internet Service Providers might also be made liable for certain acts.

As Australia is involved and I do not trust pollies to get this sort
of thing right it should have wide coverage.

Ugghhh, I might have bitten off more than I can chew with this.
How on earth it can be understood by those of us who are reasonably
competent in other fields is a mystery.
It does explain how the public servants can put it all over the pollies.
The lobbyists for the drug companies and agriculture genetic companies
together with the public servants involved could overwhelm the political system.
Should this section on intellectual property rights be in a trade treaty anyway ?

You are basically on the right track. Professor Mariana Mazzucato's recently published book, "The Entrepreneurial State" makes many valid comments about the TPP negotiations and the pharmaceutical industry.

The bulk of the new medicines developed in the USA are developed either in government owned laboratories or are funded by government in privately owned labs. The same applies to the bulk of the discoveries in the electronics field. Nearly all the technology included in Apple products was initially developed by research groups commissioned by, and paid by, the defence or space industries. Even the algorism initially used by Google was a government development.

Mazzucato quoted an cancer treatment as an example. A years supply of the drug costs $1,000 to produce but the retail charge is $20,000. The US Government charges 0.5% royalty.

Instead of attempting to help companies rip off patients worldwide the US Govt should be attempting to reign in the gouging of American citizens by the manufacturing and marketing ghouls.

Problem 1, the Governments are controlled by big business.
People might elect them but the conglomerates mostly give the orders.
