Is Mise and Hasbeen, any of the Academic teachers at Queensland University school of agriculture/wildlife science would seem to fit the bill, to name just one University.
Read about it yourself and widen your horizons a little.
Hasbeen, I looked up academic in the dictionary just to make sure I had the meaning right, and it seems both of us could be right!
It has two meanings
1- relating to education and scholarship.
2-not of practical relevance, of only theoretical interest.
To my mind, an academic is someone who went to university and studied for and gained a degree of some sort.
The academics at the university I mentioned above are actively doing research at present to save 3 endangered species.
