What pointless exercising of ego. If people acknowledged those who do menial but highly important work everyday we wouldn't need this silly & expensive romp'n pomp. Just imagine how many intelligent teachers for our young to get the education they need we could import for all that money.

Here's an interesting comparison of the number of men to women in the Australia Day Honours list:

Poirot - Now can you get a break down of how many were EX political figures. That would be an interesting one.

Multicultural break-down next.
Followed by complaint that "Australian" honours is not an inclusive enough term. There should be "First Australian" enamelled in the colours of aboriginal flag, and an array of culturally sensitive ones, "Lebanese Australian" (for services rendered at Bondi) and so on. "Positive" affirmative action to apply in the issuing of awards and Multicultural advisory groups (on fat sit-down fees) to inform PM direct. There should be a Political Correctness Award and a one way airline ticket to one of the favored PC cultures to go with it, perhaps India or Palestine. I caught an interview with Akram Azimi (“young Australian of the year” ) on one of the ABC channels. The reporter was doing her darnedest to pump him for a suitably political correct statement about Ozzie racism or our “meanness” towards “refugees” --but to his credit – he refused to be drawn.
It must have been incredibly disappointing for the honchos at the ABC and National Australia Day Council. They’ve probably already prepared a memo for next year's selectors: “ Do better next time:choose someone more compliant ”. Posted by SPQR, Monday, 28 January 2013 1:12:49 PM
