My interpretation of Houlley's post was a satirical mocking of 'the revelation'.

That is, the media's preoccupation with getting the dirt on anyone in public life even if it was many years ago. Whether Tony Abbott punched a wall when he was a young man is really irrelevant today, perhaps only pointing to a tendency to temper.

I would rather the media concentrate on policies and driving ideologies (albeit a bit thin on the ground).

If we were all held to account until our dying day for mistakes made in our youth there would not be any of us untainted? Does anyone want a silly mistake to forever follow into adulthood when one has learned, matured and moved on. Without mistakes there is no opportunity to become a better person.

Apart from criminal activity and heinous crimes, the past doesn't matter in the political context these titillations are revealed.
