Anthonyve,
re your link about economists. I frequently draw attention to the pointlessness of Academics & I cop plenty flak for it. The economists you refer to are simply just that, pointless Academics. I wonder if there will ever be a point in time when the majority of voters have sufficient nuance not to let themselves be so hoodwinked by these so-called intelligent intellectuals who can't actually do anything apart from disrupting competent people in the course of everyday life. Quite a lot of their antics hardly differ from witchcraft in the dark ages. Posted by individual, Friday, 24 August 2012 10:22:21 PM

In the case of economists, Individual, I agree wholheartedly.
They've caused incredible harm, especially the Freedmanites from the Chicago School of Economics. Thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people died in South American countries due to their insane theories. Arjay, I do wish you would stop pretending you know what a derivative is.
>>Anthonyve, did you know that our banking system is loaded with $15 trillion of derivatives, which is 13 times our GDP?<< The problem is that it is clear from the way that you use the numbers - as if the $15 trillion actually exists somewhere, like some enormous great IOU that someone is going to cash one day - that you don't have the slightest clue what they are, or what effect they have on the economy. It really is getting tiresome. Moreover, you just look like an idiot, as you trot out the same garbage, time after time. Posted by Pericles, Friday, 24 August 2012 10:53:53 PM

Anton, You just don't get it do you.
You say, we all live on the same planet, which, by your very definition, imdentifies climate change as a global issue, not an Australian issue, and it is for this reason why so many of us are opposed to this huge tax, in it's current form, that will have very little, if any, impact on global climate change. I again remind you and others, that comsumers are the main reason why CO2 emissions are generated, through our demands for energy. Quite simply, they (our government) are taxing the wrong people. If the government really wants a reduction in emissions, then reward sensible users, and penalize abusers. The end result will be far less risk, no tax and a guaranteed reduction in CO2 emissions, as there are few things consumers like better, than a chance to save money. It is for this reason that I suspect the government has a hidden agenda on this one. Posted by rehctub, Saturday, 25 August 2012 5:51:36 AM
