Did anyone watch the period drama 'Wild Boys'on Channel 7 tonight?
If you did what were your impressions?

I thought that it was a lower strata 'B' grade 'Gum-tree' Western.

I watched it merely because I am familiar with the Australiarna Village where it was filmed. Though the Village needed the cash and buildings to assist its rebirth, it doesn't need the poor image of "Wild Boys". It is a poor drama and unreal history script. It might appeal to untelligent 17 year old boys for action. and view of the police.

Dear Is Mise,

No. I didn't watch it.

I did see the previews though - and thought
it looked a bit "Hee Haw!"

The cast seemed to be having fun, and the music
was boot-stomping, hip-swinging, good.

At least it's providing people with work in the
industry.

If I had a one way time machine, it's the late Australian 1800's I'd dial in, so I thought I'd watch it to see what all the promos were trying to sell.

I was initially concerned about the time slot. Anything screened at 7.30 when the "little ones" are still getting ready for bed has to be very light hearted and I was correct in thinking so. I watched it to the end and was still not sure if I was watching a B grade Aussie comedy or a half hearted attempt at drama. I decided on the former.

If I was a film critic, I wouldn't even know what category to place this one in. Adventure/comedy perhaps?

The guys looked cute. In fact too cute for late 19th century. Baths were few and far between, especially for bush rangers. These boys most certainly didn't look like desperadoes. The girls looked sassy enough, but once again, a tad over done!

The villain is reasonably "villainous," but lacks any real menace. The traps looked as dopey as they often were in those times.

Overall, I really wonder who thought this one up and I suspect it won't draw huge ratings. I just hope the creators don't decide to make another version of Robbery Under Arms, although having said that, they can't get as wrong as the last miserable attempt which included the hot-air balloon!

As for "Wild Boys," I give it two stars out of ten.
Aime.
