Since wearing out her shoe leather to sell the carbon tax seemed to fail miserably, Juliar has tried another tactic.

Juliar hopes that by using stealth to introduce the tax, (that has been condemned by the majority of businesses and voters), that Australians will simply wake up to a new tax and learn to live with it. Unfortunately with the tax having to be debated through parliament, the chances of this escaping the public is remote.

Shadow Minister,
Julia Gillard is not silly, she is just incompetent. It's her supporters who are straight forwatd opportunistic morons. They're the ones who don't give a hoot about ordinary Australians' daily battle with incompetent & integrity devoid bureaucracy.

Noni Hazelhurst, the actress, raised the question on
"Q and A," as to how come good manners and decency
have disappeared from the lives of some Australians.
Why do people feel that they can call our Prime Minister
by her first name, or even an insulting "version,"
of her first name. If you don't respect the lady,
at least respect the position she holds.

I know that many previous Prime Ministers had several
unflattering nick names given to them.
But the actress is right -
this sort of disrespect does seem to be directed more
at our current PM. Is it because she's our first female
PM?

Lexi I have to say the woman is getting exactly what she deserves.

She has fully earned the right to be despised by most Australians, & they have given her her due.

It may be possible with some people to respect the office, but despise the current holder of that office, but not with her. She won't permit it.

She doesn't even have enough sense to shut up. She keeps reinforcing the fact that she is a liar, by continuing to lie, virtually every time she opens her mouth. She keeps trying to get away with the same mixture of half truths, & straight lies, that got past some in the early days. That won't wash with Ozzies now, apart from the few of you who refuse to see her for what she is.

The country suffered enough when far too many continued to try to see something good in Rudd, long after it was apparent he was just an arrogant, useless, hateful little man, who should be got rid of.

At that stage Julia had the ball at her feet. People even welcomed her for getting rid of Rudd. If she had been able to tell the truth about anything, she had it made. Every bit of bile now aimed at her she has earned, all on her own.

Lexi,

Whilst not condoning some of the extremes above, I would argue that the position of PM is no shield against legitimate criticism. Adolf Hitler held the position of Chancellor, and no one would seriously suggest shielding him.

The issue is that most businesses and Individual Australians hate the carbon tax, and Juliar is hell bent on passing it in spite of the overwhelming opposition.

Dear rehctub,

When is enough enough? For me the jury's seems to
still be out. Perhaps after the current government
has at least served its full term in office - we
can look back and see what their achievements were
and compare these with the criticisms made against
them and see how the scales balance out.

If they succeed with the following - it will be
an achievment in itself:

Poll after poll by different organisations show that the majority of Australians are against the carbon tax, and an insipid article in a Greenie blog is hardly an effective counter argument.

The way i see it is that the government is desperate and is simply looking for ways to replenish the billions they have wasted during their short time in office.

It is not our fault we are in this position,In fact it is nobody's fault otherthan theirs.

Brain wave after brain wave, scheme after scheme has seen our nest egg gone plus a huge debt racked up that is now unpayable without raising taxes.

Now this shocking imbecile has the hide to accuse Tony abbot of having a huge hole in his budget as a direct result of her and her governments wasteful missmanagement of our economy at a time that we should be flurishing.

All because the do good ers thought low skilled people deserved a decent wage for a minimal effort, you know, the work choices revolt at the 07 election.

So here we are less than 4 years down the track, with no money, huge debt and still many without skills.

You see, logic says that if a low skilled person can earn a decent wage without skills, then why bother gaining skills. It is a no brained and one that has cost us dearly.

So ask your selves people, those of you who supported these fools, am i proud of what I have helped achieve, by offering my loyal support to,this failed government or, like the rest of the people, am i appalled by the way this government Has ruined this great nation for my friends, foes, relies and generations to come.

At least my old mate belly admits they got it wrong and I applaud him for that, however the big test will be in the way he votes at the next election.

I suspect he is like many supporters out there, clinging to the hope that they can at least achieve one positive outcome during office.

The best thing they could do now would be to bring back Kevin, but this would be yet another backflip. One that the faceless men of the party simply wont entertain.

What a disgrace they are.

Lexi,
you're questioning some of our harsh comments re Julia Gillard & talk about respect for the office she holds.
Might I point out that the office of PM of Australia is not to be ridiculed & as far as I can deduce no-one's doing that.
If anyone is degrading the office it is the present incumbent who has yet to show respect for the people she is privileged to supposedly lead. There is no evidence of that happening so therefore any respect for her is premature. Ask her about her respect for those of us who cop crap because of the gang she put together. Respect is two-way lane.

SM,

I was not aware that the links I gave were from
a "Greenie blog," (insipid or ortherwise). Those
particular links actually give a rather balanced
point of view - and it would be to your credit
if you used your intellectual capacity to look
at what they're actually presenting - rather than
simply brushing them aside because they may not
happen to state things as you see them - or match
your political inclinations.

However, I guess when it comes to discussing
politics the moment analysits begin to look critically
at motivation, circumstances, context, or any other
such considerations, the product becomes unacceptable
for one or another camp of readers.

In political discussions
people are often more interested in condemnation rather
than explanation. Explanations seem tatamount to
sympathizing and excusing. This however, all too
easily leads onto the questionable practice of
stereotyping parties and if people are reluctant to
modify their judgements, the result is usually a
complete breakdown of communication.

See you on another thread.

Cheers.

Lexi:>> When is enough enough? For me the jury's seems to

Lexi it seems the corpus callosum has failed one in three Aussies.

If you take your vehicle for repair and the mechanic consistently fails to deliver fit for purpose results, and all you have is a bill that in no way represents value for money you would complain there and then. You would take into consideration previous work done and make a value judgment on the mechanic…you would not go back to his business, you would feel cheated, he is a failure with no improvement shown or expected. So why expect Gillard to improve?

Lexi that the “jury” is still out in your mind regarding the current Labor Party and their ability to return value for money does not bode well in the rationality stakes. Even our Belly can see that this Cabinet have mismanaged all they have touched while sticking to his core beliefs that the projects of themselves are beneficial to Australia. A Cabinet that stuffed up EVERY significant project they implemented.

Your comment about waiting to see is Tolkienesque in its fiction, wait to see what? They appointed a new leader who said “we stuffed up but it is going to be better now”, and the failures went on unabated. Lexi you fail to understand that this government like the Rudd government is run by a handful, the rest of the Cabinet are sock puppets and the only powerbroker who acknowledges the backbenchers is the whip, making sure they front, because that is ALL the backbenchers are there for, no input what so ever. Do you know who you support, it’s not the ALP, its the Fabians. Why are lifelong Labor folk disillusioned, it is because the ALP they knew has gone?

“Scales balance out” , indeed, lol.

Tony Abbott has been wearing out just as much shoe leather debunking the Carbon Tax, a policy he himself entertained only a few years ago.

The truth is while all this campaigning by Shadow Minister is funny at best, the Opposition is no different from the ALP and in some ways they will be worse. There will be no money for growing needs for improved infrastructure and you can bet hospital and health funding will be cut while the public service mandarins continue to feather their nests with little impact on the senior levels. They will build a huge surplus from our taxes for little more than boasting rights and do little with it. In business this is called overpricing or a rip-off.

Laughable. Now the Opposition is thinking of cutting millions from the public service (they will all result in loss of frontline services no matter what they promise-seen it happen too many times before). There is still no policy substance from Mr Abbott only disparaging rabble from the sidelines.

Mr Abbott's whole campaign is based on debunking the Carbon Tax he once supported - if that's it he still needs another rabbit to pull out of the hat. This ones got bells on it.

The government announced it's changing its emblem to a condom because it accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of dicks, and gives you a sense of security while you're being screwed.

Belly in 1991 there was also a labor government that racked up a huge budget deficit and a bloated public service.

The reality is that the public service has grown by 10% under labor probably in a "jobs for pals" rort, with no noticeable increase in service delivery.

Given that the coalition has not released any details of the savings cuts I was surprise that a study could have been conducted. Looking into the Centre for Policy Development, it was not surprising to find it aligned with the left / green political agenda.

This study done on invented information is a political pronouncement based on Vapour.

Dear Lexi,
My post was meant for all the politicians who are denying the people of Australia Democratic Rights.
When anything the government in power on the day introduces a policy which will impact on the people as the carbon tax will, then there is a need for a referendum, in this way the people will decide to either accept or decline the proposal.
That is democracy and in a democracy people rule.

Dear gypsy,

You've fallen for the rhetoric that's currently
being bandied about. This is a tax not on the
people but on the big polluters. It's merely the
first step in pricing carbon. Governments are not
obliged to present their policies to the people
every time a decision is made and this one has been
in the works since Mr Howards's day. The only one
who wants a Referendum (and an election) is Mr Abbott
and Co. They however lost the election - and this
government has another two years to try to achieve
something - including a very moderate attempt to give
us a clean energy future. In two years time if the
outcomes have not been positive ones - the people will
have their chance to vote the government out. That is
democracy in action. For now, however, the democratic
thing to do would be to allow the current government to
do its job and not behave (as Noni Hazelhurst pointed out on
"Q and A"), like two year olds saying "No!" to everything.

Dear Lexi.
Maybe the people wont be compelled to pay the carbon tax directly, but we will pay it indirectly in the price raisers of all the goods, every day needs to exist.
Yesterday I was at the Australian Sovereignty Party AGM. One of the topics was concerning tax. It was explained the number of taxes we are already paying, a total of 125 and if the flood levee tax and the carbon tax is introduced it will then amount to 127 taxes we are paying.
Experiance has or should have taught us that Corporations pass on the costs they incur for their products on to the consumer, we the people are the consumer. Whether you like to believe it or not we will end up paying the carbon tax. For the records I was a labor voter and no I do not like the Liberal Coalition.
We need politicians who will represent the people who vote for them. None are doing this now.

Dear gypsy,

The cost of living is going up no matter what happens.
That part won't change with or without this policy.
But my goodness look at what we're complaining about.
Australia is doing remarkably well compared to other
countries. We're complaining that we can't spend more
than we do - while people are starving elsewhere.
This policy is a very moderate attempt in securing a
clean energy future for us all. And, to my way of thinking -
it's a small price to pay for a clean energy future. This
is a first step in the right direction.
BTW: Low income earners
will be compensated - so it is do-able, with the least
upheaval on us all. Once this gets
under way next year - you may just discover that it hasn't
affected you as badly as you've been led to believe that it
will. And as I said - what's the alternative? Do nothing?
That's not an option, in my view at least.

Implementing policy is one thing, but telling a blatant lie is another. This is the issue with hr carbon tax policy.

Now, as for taxing the large poluters, just remember, it is they who polute to provide us with our needs and wants. We will pay fo it and some, because, as I have tried to explain before, businesses don't run on a cost recovery basis.
They need o make. Profit.
Now you say is to be green. Well, ho on earth do you think little old Australia can fix the global problem. Get a grip!

Now you keep referring to labor winning e election. That's crap and you know it.

In fact, we are now seeing the costs of JG and her desperate plee to hold office in the form of an Andrew wilki and his unworkable pokie policy. Upset 97% to fix the problems of 3%. has live export small about it, hey!

Finally, I just hope there is somethin to salvage in two years an, if we are the lucky ones, as you say, this says very little for the rest.

We've been over this ground so many times that frankly
I don't see the point of going over it again.
You see things one way, I see them in another way.

As to who is right or wrong - well, the voters will
decide in the end anyway. If they're not happy with
what they're getting - they can always vote on it at the
next election. Frankly to me, Mr Abbott has not offered
any better alternatives - and to vote for
him and his party simply because they say this government
is lousy (without offering me anything better) well - to me
that's just simply not logical.

So why is it that none of you supporters recognize that it is we who are causing the polluters to pollute.

Once agin they are taxing the wrong people.

Madness is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

So why on earth does anyone vote for Labor. Amnesia?

My experience that every government that comes in on a promise to 'streamline' the public service inevitably ends up with cuts to actual services.

There is very little fat cut from the service, governments of the day only want the appearance of cuts, whether they actually affect services seems to be a minor concern.

The reason: they are too separated from the process of delivering these cuts and rarely assert their position to insist senior levels of management and the actual 'wah wah' programs are cut.

It is all about appearances. And then people wonder why they spend an hour on the phone waiting for a Centrelink officer or months-years processing immigration and security vetting applications, or cuts to social work services to people in need (the list goes on). It also means people's access to government is limited.

The ALP has lived up to it's efficiency dividend each year and it is a fuphy (same under the LNP) as any of the more senior roles that appear to be 'cut' are simply replaced with consultancies that come under a different accounting value or the remaining staff have to deal with impact of fewer staff to undertake not only the same amount of work but a growing workload in many cases given increases in population.

The Liberals will be no better. They will just make cuts willy nilly as under Howard, while forking out huge dollars to corporate and middle class welfare (pork barrelling). Happens every time and I cannot see that changing.

SM,

Tha answer to that is "clear and simple."
Look who you've got as your party's leader!

BTW: Did you watch "Q and A," last night.
Malcolme Turnbull - now there's a leader!

Dear rehctub,

Actually I didn't bring it up.
Shadow Minister did with this thread.

Cheers.

Dear Lexi,
The only things wrong with the Labor Government is based on Abbotts rumour/scare mongering that seemingly some stupid people believe.
Yes, I know that I said I won't be posting on anything to do with politics, just couldn't help myself one more time.
Cheers,

What are these vital services Tony Abbott wants to cut ? Remember clutching at straws does not qualify as a service. Is the vital arts perhaps ?

Individual, I am typing slowly, given your endless insults.
Seeming inability to think issues out.
I will not again respond to your questions/thoughts aimed at me.
Lexi while I am not predicting a Labor victory next election.
Watch question time.
Very clearly the worm has turned, to day the very body Language shouted Abbott is being unmasked.
It was always going to happen, his front bench parroted, yesterday too, his scripted insults and looked bad.
Unfortunately, his fall assured as it is, only foretells a better leader and harder task for Labor.

Belly,
it is a mystery to me how you see every answer you don't like as an insult. To state unpleasant facts about ALP mismanagement or lame scare tactics by ALP supporters are not insults, get that into you. You may find nothing wrong with defending the incompetence which sends many decent Australians to the brink but many caring & concerned people do.
Abbott hasn't even cited any policies yet you see fit to condemn without hearing or seeing. Has it ever occurred to you that the public service jobs axing might actually be positions which may come under a sunset clause ? Running an economy is not like stirring up workers for more pay at a union meeting, it's about managing, something union people have no understanding about. It's about performance & benefit not simply just the latter.

Today Thursday 18 August, the Herald Sun newspaper stated the carbon tax will be at a cost of at least 23,000 jobs.

On top of that Ouantas is axing many jobs in Australia.

Steel companies axing many jobs in Australia.

The Australian cattle industry has had a ban put on it by their main overseas buyer. This will create more unemployment and many of the cattle industry farmers are now facing bankruptcy.

Apples from New Zealand will be imported into Australia, this is at the risk of the risk of the Australian fruit growers industry and more job losses.

The carbon tax will destroy Australias economy. It is already indicating job losses and big employers moving off shore.

If we the Australian people do not do anything to put a stop to this now, we will be reduced to a third world country.

The Labor/Greens and the Liberal/Nationals are all to blame. They stopped listening to the Australian people many decades ago.

If we continue to ignore what is occurring we will only have ourselves to blame when we lose everything.

For evil to prosper, it takes that good men and women do nothing.

I do not know how many of you people are aware that the Australian Constitution 1900 Act is the most important document in Australias history. It created the Commonwealth and the States, and made Australia one nation.
The first four words in the preamble state "Whereas we the people".

The Constitution is not simply a document of fundamental historical significance. It is also a document of continueing and critical importance to contempory Australian society. It is the legal and political foundation om which our nation is built and functions.

Dear Gypsy,

Thanks for the Herald-Sun article. I also read it.
However you left out quite a substantial bit
of information out of the article.

You left out the following bits:

1) The Victorian Government is a Liberal Goverenment
and opposed to the carbon tax,
and the Deloitte Access Modelling that did their report
was commissioned by the Victorian Government. The modelling
was motivated by a desire to oppose this fundamental
economic reform, not by a desire to contribute to the
debate about the policy.

2) However, article also stated that according to the Federal
Treasury modelling - the Victorian economy will grow by
30% by 2020 and 162% by 2050.

3) It stated that Agriculture,
construction and services industries would
boom.

4) And finally, the figures given by the Deloitte Access
modelling commissioned by the Victorian Government do not
take into account the promised Federal compensation which
so far includes $12 billion for Australia's manufacturing
and electricity industries.

These facts give a totally different picture to the one
you're presenting. You should not believe the scare-mongering
and rhetoric that is being presented by the Opposition.
That's all they have.

Gypsy it is my earnest hope you are just spinning the issue.
The alternative is you have little understanding of the issue.
Even Tony Abbott, surely, would not claim the Quantas job loss as a carbon tax thing, near 12 months before it begins.
And those of us who think considered thought beats spin, are aware jobs will also be created by the clean energy bill.
That bill will pass Parliament, we will not see an early election forced by it,
But sincere thanks for adding fuel to my belief ,truth has become of less importance than point scoring in Australian Politics.

Dear Belly and Lexi,
I was not being an alarmist with what I have written. I have learnt over 62 years never to trust politicians. They are in it for the benefits to themselves first and if any flow on to the popualation then we benefit.

Unfortunately for us the politicians are no longer interested in listening to the people and they are making it obvious.

I was not blaming the carbon tax on Quantas making jobs redundant. It is pure greed on their part.
Why do you think the government is looking at restricting or removing pension and unemployment benefits? As long as they can distract the people on other issues such as the carbon tax they can sneak other laws and statutes through.

We all have one big concern for which we should be cautious, and that is the amount of our country and industries that are being sold off to foreign investors. Although it has not been substantiated I have heard China is intending bringing their own people to Australia on work visas to operate their Australian enterprises. When they do this more Australian peoples jobs will be gone.

I do not know if you are aware of the amount of foreclosures occurring on peoples homes and property,s due to the high increases of the basic neccessities to survive coupled with redundancies.

I was made redundant from my employment on the 10th October 2010, and although I apply upwards of 20 jobs a week I have had no luck, seldom even a reply.

A knowledgable freind warned me of how the world would change and that was 20 or more years ago. At the time I laughed and said he was an alarmist and didn't know what he is talking about. Funnily enough at the time he said China would one day control Australia.

As far as I'm concerned all the major 4 Australian political parties are the same, they all rely on each other and treat politics as a game.

Gday young Gypsy, just a couple of years in front of you.
Every one of us has every right to an opinion.
No mater what that opinion is.
I think we are not well served by the current lot on both sides but not as badly as you do.
From both sides of the house good government could be formed.
And I strongly hold the view global warming is in part man made ,so we are doing the right thing, in joining many country's in slowing our emissions down.
If I am wrong, just say I am, is clean energy/renewable energy not some thing we must do in any case soon as oil and coal even will not be around forever?
Today Mr Abbott, supported by his trained team, time and again tried to say trading in a world wide scheme was wrong.
A ton of carbon cut is a good thing surely?
I wounder how Tony can believe there are Australian emissions floating around up there identifiable from all the other country's emissions?

It is interesting how Lexi will quote as gospel figures from the Federal labor government's modelling on the carbon tax, but instantly dismiss the modelling by the Victorian coalition government.

While I have not seen the Victorian modelling, the federal model has some blatant flaws:

1 its model is based on $20/t not the $23 to be legislated.
2 The 1% inflation figure only includes the initial spike, and not the resultant COLA wage increases later, nor that the carbon price continually rises,
3 The job losses calculated assume that our major competitors have a similar cost on carbon and do not factor in the increased competition from outside.

If all these factors are taken in, the job losses may be closer to the Victorian report than the terms of reference restricted federal model.

Belly,
He doesn't so stop twisting words. He never once said a carbon tax was good or bad or we should or shouldn't have one. What he says & I think he is right in saying that for a small emitter like Australia no amount of tax will better the climate. If you can explain how a tax from about 10 million australians will positively alter the climate than I volunteer to pay double. at this stage of affairs an australian carbon tax is utterly pointless. When the big polluters start cutting back then we should join in. As it is now it's just plain senseless & that's why Abbott is rightly opposed to it.

Dear gypsy,

I can fully understand your current mood.
Not finding suitable employment can affect one's
mindset. However, have you thought about re-training,
going back to study, and looking at perhaps another
field than the one you're currently interested in?
Have you also tried employment agencies? Or looking
at related fields to the ones in which you've got
experience. What about asking for an appointment
with the human resources manager of any organisation
that you're interested in working for - and simply
make an appointment to talk to the HR manager and ask
for advice in how one would go about applying for a
position with their company. You'd need to have done
your homework on the company - so that you'd be able
to give them good reasons for why you'd like to work
for them. Just an idea.

Dear SM,

Again just to clarify a few points. I quoted the figures
from The Herald Sun article that gypsy referred to in her
post. They are not "My" figures. And it's also interesting
how you make excuses for the Liberal Government in Victoria
yet the Federal Treasury's figures
and modelling is automatically
questionable - by you.

As for your constant reference to our Prime Minister
using derogatory terminology implying she's a liar -
try this on for size with Moany Tony:

Lexi,

The figures in the Sun Herald were by Deloites "access economics" branch, an independent body.

The flaws in the Treasury modelling are due to Treasury using incorrect terms of reference supplied to them by Federal labor. I notice that you haven't disputed these flaws.

Dear Lexi,
I recently completed 2 retraining courses to further my employment options [Certificate 2 and 3 in security and First Aid] all of which I passed. All i'm waiting on now is the licence.

Are you aware of and know the significance of our "Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900"? The first 4 words state: "Whereas we the people.
Clause 5 states: "This Act and all laws made by the Parliament of the Commonwealth under the Constitution, shall be binding on the courts, judges and people of every state and of every part of the Commonwealth
Section 128 states: "The people by way of Referendum to vote for any changes which will effect the their freedoms and rights".

The government has a duty to the people of Australia to hold a referendum for the people to vote regarding the carbon tax. By having a referendum of the people's vote will either endorse (carry) or deny (not Carry)the carbon tax. We are only bound by laws made by the Parliament of the Commonwealth under the Constitution Not under a corporation seal.

The High Court of Australia, Decision - Re Wakin [1999] HCA27; 198 CLR 511; 163 ALR270; 73 ALJR 839 (17 June 1999) Kirby JJ stated - A legislature cannot, by pre-amblular assertions, recite itself into constitutional power where none exists. [239]
As I stated before, the Constitution states: "Whereas we the people", it does not state "Whereas we the government" or "Whereas we the parliament". This means we the people rule and the elected politicians are there to represent us and do what we the people want, Not what the political parties they belong to want.

I hope this post will be of assistance to you.

So ok now lets see.
The carbon tax, in my view is based on a belief the worlds,[ put a few bob in the OLO tin and we can get highlighting methods].
Climate is or is not being affected by a number of gases man is making.
Lets for a second say it is.
While Australia is a high emitter on the per head of population scales.
Our planned cuts, in the short term or middle distance, are not going to change the world.
Planet, our big rock,if we intend to act, it is not about sweeping our bit of sky.
Now carbon tax, is based on several things, to solve an INTERNATIONAL PROBLEM.
Labor intends to? allow our firms to trade! how long has Liberalism been against that?
We too will sell, world wide credits, making cash for farmers out of the scheme.
Our Tony, says we will not trade with these foreigners!out standing! silly!
So impacts, Quantas was fined by the EU because this country did not have a reduction scheme, we all may well be one day.
IF we cut others will, a good result.
If enought cut maybe we can force others to follow.
Tony, way up there sweeping our sky to clean up looks rather silly.

The qantas job losses in my view as as a direct result of ridiculous And unworkable IR laws our companies are now faced with.

It is the beginning of more to come, however, unless you are a risk taker, who creates jobs, then you will find it a hard concept to grasp as you live in a world that is provided to you, by others.

So, have any of you supporters out there given any thoughts to how on earth we are going to feed the demands of the likes of India and china, while at the same time cut our own emissions,

I seriously doubt you have the answers, unless of cause you are a green/brown supporter and have no problems with another country cutting our grass.

Wake up to yourselves, you are placing our entire future at serious risk because if Australian all of a sudden ceased to exist, the cuts o global emissions would be negligable, and you all know it.

This we are the largest per capita ommiter is just spin.

Of cause we are, because we supply much of the global demands and, we rely so much on exports.

By all means ruin your world but please leave mine alone.
