Iranian state television ran a report Monday saying Israeli military aircraft were massing at a U.S. air base in Iraq for a strike on Iran.

All that is missing is an "Al Qaeda Revenge Attack" (

Al Qaeda is not a homogenous group. It is not have an org chart with tiered levels of management like other organisationss. It is fragmented and many groups have no resemeblance to Al Qaeda having developed their own offshoots and networks years ago.

You do have to wonder about some aspects of the national security agenda though, why was OBL's body buried at sea. The reason offered is to ensure his grave does not become a Shrine for martyrs. A Shrine does not need a body to make it a destination for martyrs. His death alone makes him a martyr, the burial place is insignificant. OBL's death will not change the nature of terrorism.

DNA tests prove it was OBL but we all know US administrations are not always full on with the truth.

Why did US officials (as now revealed by Wikileaks cables) report no knowledge of OBL for years to the public but CIA reports sightings of him at meetings and other venues for years.

I don't claim to know the truth of these matters, but I do know that it is foolish to take on board whatever hype is dished up by governments via the media, and there is evidence by the aggressive responses to whistleblowers that there is some room for scrutiny.
The fact is some governments sometimes do treat their citizenry with contempt.

My trust in those other nations you mention are even less. One does not discount the other.

At least in the West there is some effort in governance and accountability and the fact that whistleblowers do emerge from time to time means there is space for those revelations. Most people are not corrupt it is just that sometimes those with power can be corrupted and hence their influence is felt more widely.

In Saudi Arabia and Pakistan (as you mention them) there is no framework for freedom of speech.
