Very scary stuff Belly. Not altogether unexpected - it was always a time bomb scenario. At least China has also admonished Nth Korea's actions but where to now...?

Well Belly, if it happens, it happens.
There's nothing that we in Oz can do about it, is there? A lot of people see 2012 as the year that things really start to fall apart. By all indications I fear that this is about right. At any rate, we are bound to be in for eruptions of enormous strife around the world in the near future. That's where we've come to, with the human population explosion, environmental alienation, stressed basic resources, chronic mismanagement, corruption and gross financial irresponsibility. Odd nutcase regimes like North Korea and the conflict that they are likely to cause are probably minor compared to what is likely to happen within the next decade or so. Then again, maybe tomorrow we will wake to see a crisis not unlike the two Korea's has started a full on war.
If Australia collapses on a Brisbane green-top and the English end up winning the first test, it could be the beginning of the end. One morning in January we may all wake up in a world no one wants. Posted by Houellebecq, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 1:37:02 PM

ok hooly I give in cricket is that important to me too.
But how will this end? if not here what about Iran,Pakistan, them middle and near east in general. China must do more they like every colonial country before are more interested in their own interests nothing else. But it is not in their interest to have millions of hungry refugees crossing the border in to China. Ludwig we can do little to stop it but Rudd is saying what he needs to say and his links may yet help. If this is the one, the one morning moment we like the rest of the world will be affected. I thought it happened with 911. I came down stairs one morning and boy has TV on.
I grab a coffee and said “what movie you watching?” after spotting plane crash into twin towers. “I’m watching the news” he says. “Fine, lie to your mother” I said and flounced out to have a smoke”. I start wondering why he would have lied, smoke out and back inside, my first thought was #$%@ it we’re all dead. What I said was “go to school” cause what was I gonna do? In the years since whenever I think about it I pretty much come up with the same response. It’s similar to when I think about cricket, the baby bonus, and my violent when drunk neighbor Posted by The Pied Piper, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 4:29:23 PM

Very interesting post Mrs Piper.
<< …my first thought was #$%@ it we’re all dead. >> << In the years since whenever I think about it I pretty much come up with the same response. But for cricket?? ( :>/ Or am I misinterpreting something here? Posted by Ludwig, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 6:34:38 PM

Aw Ludwig now there is a can of worms aka how my thoughts work.
Sports, movies, music etc and how the elite in those fields are well known, famous. The people running the world, thinking about the world, or improving the world are ignored, uncelebrated. Not here on OLO I don’t believe but in general, so anything big happens and I think %$#! it. And I am in a bad mood… foster parents on another site are advising me to shoosh and play the game so that local department stops this ignoring me campaign that has been running for 10 months now. Which is more a “%$#! It I’m dead” because I can’t back down and be happy with being me. So how come 2012 is the year things will go bad? << So how come 2012 is the year things will go bad? >>
Pied Piper, a whole lot of silly people have grabbed hold of the Mayan calendar which says that it all ends, or clicks over to a new world order, or something weird like that, at 11.11AM on 21/12/2012. It’s all a bit millennium buggish I think. However, the time seems right for all of our huge stresses to start to really get the better of us, or for one of them to get out of hand and really start to have global impact. It just makes sense to me that our grossly unsustainable practices are going to jump up and really bight us on the arse at about this time. http://www.circlesoflight.com/blog/mystery-of-2012/ http://marklhitchcock.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/2012-Doomsday1.jpg Posted by Ludwig, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 8:39:24 PM

See the bright side Belly. We are at the arse end of the world,
even if its a cute arse. Most of the nutcases and most of the population are in the northern hemisphere. Luckily most of the southern hemisphere is just water and fish. Bugger the cricket, its too boring. Posted by Yabby, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 9:42:54 PM

I am both amused and afraid of the balmy army, they begin the long march this morning.
As the USA [rightly] begins its war games, remember we face a lunatic state that has turned its population in to slaves . That weather change unfortunately is very likely, I understand plans are under way to mine glass once the middle east sand has melted. Humorous? maybe not but likely, how many of us thought the GFC was not on? Posted by Belly, Thursday, 25 November 2010 5:22:49 AM

Belly:
All I know about the Korean conflict is from the TV series "Mash." And the portrayal on that series was rather dismal at times. A good anti-war statement if ever there was one. We can only hope that this conflict won't be allowed to escalate. Australians have enough on their plate with our involvement in Afghanistan. But if the Americans get involved again - who knows? As for cricket - fingers crossed. Posted by Lexi, Thursday, 25 November 2010 10:38:11 AM

Gday Lexi well that was the 1950s and you will find it interesting to look further.
I have seen many documentary's about this poor country. Empty city's built to impress visitors, involvement in mass importing of drugs to western country's including us to fund a ruling family. A people who know no freedoms are hungry and dieing, worship a man who is worse than any, yes any world leader from the modern age. 1984 but worse the dear leader is their God. China, in seeming self interest, is standing with them but saying it is not. The self interest? if North Korea fell today, if its leadership died, we would face millions of refugees trained to hate us not Even had a true education and unable to feed them selves. Consider 70 years of such brain washing and like me ask, who would lead them? Look Lexi at night maps on goggle , a black area without even power . every morning..we face..*the elite_adgenda
[that..they would rather..have us giving thought..*to] as well as avoiding that..to which 'they'..dont want us thinking about ir they'...like us..to be in the fight or flight reflex [knowing fight is not an option]..this is more commonly known as the fear complex...[in a fear state..we follow the leader]..do as were told to do..with instant[blind]..unthinking obediance we can play their game or chose our own [recall we make real the things we give attention to] so i say so what..[re todays destraction point] im building my future..by focusing on that i wish to bring into my reality...[not interact with thy..fear filled reality] so saying i quote..[from 30_years amoung the dead..topic] I come to thank you...You were the one..who enlightened me and gave..me..an understanding of the real life beyond. I found I could not throw..*my sins on Christ. He was..is..*our teacher,..but we must live..our own lives, as He taught us to live,..and not throw..our sins and troubles..*on Him. That is a false doctrine. He is the Life,..revealing..the Light..and the Way..of the good. He said:..he that followeth me..shall not walk in darkness.” Many others..before Him taught the same lesson of life. I found that in the past there/had been..many teachers like Christ. Confucius was one...He taught the same as did Christ. In the Old Testament we find the same principles..as Christ taught; His sayings..are the same in the Old..as in the New. Let us all do..what we can..*to find God within us...all. Learn to live..according to Christ's teachings...“Love the Lord thy God..[good]..with all thy heart..and thy neighbor as thyself.” I would not have..the home in the spirit world..that I have if I had not been disturbed and received..an understanding of the real life. I was very wicked..and you know the desire..I had for morphine. That desire was with/me..even after I left my body. The desire for..*anything belongs to the soul,..not to the body. The body..[all materialistic reality]..is only a cloak..or dress for your soul. All the desires of life,..all the faculties..that belong to the soul,..go with you..to the grave,..and beyond the grave. Thanks for the G'Day - it's greatly appreciated. I'm beginning to feel a bit more welcome on this forum. As for North Korea - I'll take your advice and do a bit more research. From what I gather the recent attack seems to have been a deliberate provocation. It could have dire consequences. Posted by Lexi, Thursday, 25 November 2010 3:37:09 PM

Yes TPP and Lexi complex issue.
ww2 saw Japanese occupied the whole country. After Russia had the north America backed the south. North Korea had China fighting for it in that Korean war, and backing it in some way ever since. Not joking TPP it is true these poor buggers know only what they are allowed to know, mostly how to hate the west and truly idolize the leader. Evidence power and national self interest carries more weight than human beings. Russia and China should move on this country's leadership or let others do it. Belly babe:”Not joking TPP it is true these poor buggers know only what they are allowed to know, mostly how to hate the west and truly idolize the leader.”
Yeah but what if they are right? We spend a lot of time, some of you years, debating and leaving opinions about what is wrong with the west and dissing all our leaders. I’m talking out a hole in my head, I don’t know anything about N or S Korea Belly. But if they are happy and idolise their leader why do we want to change it? Good question belly,
If I may paraphrase your question: When "sovereign" nations do things that are illegal and unjust, should their "sovereignty" be worth a pinch of piss? The answer is no. All of us live near or neighbors, who have more in common with us than a distant capital. Should "sovereign" leaders be able to decree that Pi is three, or that a religion is compulsory, or that routine software validation processes are expensive and therefore optional? No. Reality is bigger than them, so trivially as to be laughable. Kim il Jong or whatever the twit's name is can just get over it. Ariel Sharon can just get over it. The pope can get over it. Clark Taylor can just get over it. The queensland minister for health can too. Rusty. Posted by Rusty Catheter, Thursday, 25 November 2010 10:48:05 PM

Sorry TPP, but mate you are in way over your head here.
No western bigotry, but interesting that a nation of slaves, that is what they are, can go unnoticed. Subs from NK kidnapped Japanese from their country and took them for a life in captivity like birds in a cage. Schooling and education in that country is limited to singing about love for a tyrant and hate for every one else. Hunger, starvation, no freedoms, no cars no PC and no right to use one in any case, A nightmare life. It was not this morning but one morning North Korea will be in everyones mind. I spoke of night view of the country, that are blacked out because they do not have the power ,they live not in the empty city's ,they are only for show,if any country, any people, need to know freedom it is north Korea. Rudd has called on China to step in and help diffuse Korean tensions.
While there is stuff-all that Australia can do about it, we should definitely be trying to do something. So good on him. http://www.dailymercury.com.au/story/2010/11/24/too-early-for-action-on-n-korea-attack-us/ Posted by Ludwig, Friday, 26 November 2010 11:08:47 PM

Yes seems a rule we all break.
Not sure why. Rather than respond badly to houllys yawn at the subject I thought I would let him know cricket is important. Rudd like every one, may have learned from his past, he is the right man in the right job to do this task. Some one must as you say. While no guns are firing, no mushroom cloud forming over there this morning we still have a lot to consider. Those poor people, poor but deadly, are still unable to live a normal life see the world as it is, UN? UNITED NATIONS, what a lie what a useless beast of a thing . It will happen it is the nature of such things.
Should we stop it before it happens.
Should China stop propping up this half country.
Or America the other half,is power for such as China and the USA worth it?
North Korea, beyond our understanding a whole population never knowing freedom or truth.
One morning they too will wake in a world no one wants.
