Whoever pays their foster parents more becomes mute. Who is monitoring the foster parents is quite the opposite and no one is questioning why there is a belief that privatizing something means an improvement in the minds of the public.
Further add that to the fact that these NGO’s will and already do play a major role in Early Intervention. This is a huge conflict of interest.
What is going to happen and has been happening is children being forgotten after being placed one more step away from the department that is supposed to be responsible for the children it bought in to care to begin with.
The NGO caregivers with children in their homes that never need communicate with DoCS caseworkers – the ones that do have ultimate responsibility for these children.
So we have a department failing and the suggested “fix” that has nothing to do with caring for and protecting the children in short and long term care. The Recommendation will, I believe, I know, I have seen, damage children more while allowing the tax payer to contribute much more for the privilege.
It does matter that the caseworkers care and are allowed to continue to manage their own clients once they have been brought in to care. You are grabbing quotes (from Kiwis?) about child abuse in NSW while I am concerned for the changes recommended after a child enters this system in either a short term or long term placement.
Why does it really matter that they care? Because this is not a “product” we are discussing or “stats” these are real little flesh and blood children who will be lost through privatisation and making it possible for huge profits to be made from them.
Bruce Barbour – do you know what he does with complaints against DoCS? A caseworker explained briefly to me “unless a child dies complaints are passed back for DoCS to handle internally”.
