Constant war has ensued ever since, the only reasonable possibility today is a two state solution. At one time the Palestinians would not accept a two state solution, now the Israelis wont. Jews had been in the Levant for centuries. The big influx started in the late 19th century when the Ottomans realised the Jews were far more productive than the Arabs living there and therefore encouraged the migrants. The Arabs liked having the Jews come in because they were willing to pay high prices to buy land the Arabs thought was unproductive. It was only when the Jews made it productive that the Arabs started getting the sh!ts with the arrangement.
