Something that was thought to have died and been buried over 50 years ago, the White Australia Policy, has been resurrected, thanks to Pauline Hanson. In what is fast becoming an infamous interview with the convicted UK felon and far-right activist Tommy Robinson, Hanson suggested without evidence migrants came to Australia "purely for the welfare system". She blames this on the ending of the White Australia Policy. In the same interview Hanson claimed it was "quite known" that Muslims in Australia were prominent among people "ripping off" the NDIS. Senator Hanson said all the problems "started" in 1973 when former prime minister Gough Whitlam "opened up Australia, and got rid of the White Australia policy".

Should there be a return to this outdated policy, and are migrants (and Aboriginals), the cause of all of Australia's economic and social problems.

With the extreme right of politics ratcheting up its anti-Muslim, anti-migrant hysteria, the Albanese government has released its timely response to Aftab Malik's Islamophobia Report, accepting 35 of the 54 recommendations, while still considering others. Multicultural Affairs Minister Anne Aly, who is Australia's first female Muslim federal parliamentarian, said the government's responses go to "addressing some of the most significant manifestations of Islamophobia". Hopefully there will be a concerted effort to combat the lies and misinformation being peddled by the likes of Hanson and co about Muslims, and other ethnic minorities in Australia.

All the word twisting doesn't help solve the problem of incompatible migrants. Post WW2 has proven that migrants from all groups & race can achieve a workable society as long as they have the same goal, create a better life by shedding the cultural part that is incompatible with the Western values. Hypocritical racist can not refrain from stirring the pot & accusing good migrants of being racist i.e. White Australia policy ! Australia started as a Western Nation & when incompatible migrants keep promoting their thousand year old quest to take over this nation than they're clearly incompatible ! Only racists will bleat racism when there isn't any !

How do you define "incompatible migrants"? Are they incompatible because they speak a different language to you, dress differently, eat different foods etc. I see no problem with people coming here simply for a better life, regardless of differences in culture, provided these differences are benign, which for 99.9% of migrants most certainly are. If you are olive skinned, speaking a strange language, come to Australia and you want to wear a toga, and worship the god Jupiter, and eat ostrich brains, I don't care. If you want to to feed people to lions on a Saturday afternoon at the MCG, I'm going to oppose that cultural practice as incompatible. It's a matter of acceptance and balance, I would be willing to come around to your "domus" and partake of the ostrich brains, although I did hear they are high in cholesterol.

You say you are a migrant, what was your experience coming to Australia, I assume you arrived post 1966 when the Holt Coalition government repealed the laws around the White Australia Policy, allowing for mixed migration.

Hanson didn't and doesn't advocate the return of the White Australia Policy. That's just another in the long line of leftist myths that Paul has fallen for.

What she did say was that the current problems with Australian culture began when the WAP ended, (Incidentally she made the same mistake as other leftists make in crediting Whitlam with ending it. In fact it was unwound by a series of Liberal governments over the 1960's culminating in the reforms instituted by the Holt government. Whitlam merely got rid of the some of the legislation that was, by then, already ignored).

What Hanson (and now a plurality of Australian society) wants is to institute policies that (1) reduces the numbers people allowed into the country and (2) ensure that those who come have a culture that is compatible with Australia's liberal democratic values
