" I'd be the first to put up my hand for no increase if nothing else increases either." YOU are big on workers making a sacrifice, no pay increase for them. Well, how about YOU set the ball rolling by returning all those pension increases YOU have received over the past 20 years. Not likely, as you once protested, the pension increase is not enough to buy me an extra schooner, down at gods waiting room!
A lesson in high school economics, INFLATION two kinds.
1. Cost Inflation; Where input costs like raw materials, labour etc are increasing, reducing profit margins, so up goes prices.
2. Demand Inflation; Where demand for good and services are increasing faster than the economy can provide them, so up goes prices.
There is also hyper-inflation cause when a currency loses it value, and the government prints more money. Or the government is borrowing and spending too much. Not something Australia is concerned with.
