The main danger for any nation is governance without a separation of powers. Nations like Iran might be run by religious fanatics, but they are also corrupt and mismanaged.

With a separation of powers toxic religions won't deliver another Iran.

One doesn't need to be an avid reader of the various religious texts to know what their basic tenets are. Just a bit of research - you should try it some time.

No I see a danger from Islam. Currently all forms of Islam are extreme as compared to the other Abrahamic faiths. But the real issue is the separation of church and state. This has been achieved in the west (for the time being) whereas it is anathema to Islam where the church is the state and the state is the church. The concern with extremists within religions in the west is that they lash out in order to achieve their aims. We see that here with Islam but not with other religions.

Of course we also see it with other faiths that aren't spiritual in nature such as environmentalism and communism. But that's another story.

My point is not the content of religious text, ambiguous as it is, having read the Bible, (and the Torah is the first 5 books of the Old Testament, does the Hebrew version align with the Christian version?) but the danger of religious extremism from fanatics, and how best a society like Australia should deal with it. Any suggestions?

The Zionist religious extremists are as dangerous as the Islamic kind, can see that in their actions in the West Bank. Fortunately they are not prevalent in Australia, we have the occasional Christian extremist popping their heads up every now and then, shooting coopers etc.
