Beyond that I think the police response was lacking if unarmed members of the public were confronting armed perpetrators whilst armed police hid behind cars.

I'm not sure how I feel about minority groups having their own armed security as that might equate to private police forces.
We'd have to argue the pro's and con's of it.

Yes some important people have armed security, but to have a minority group down at the beachfront holding their own religious festival, one that involves aspects of that religion supporting harm against another people and religion, is inviting conflict and unfair for everyone else if one section of the beach front is sectioned off and surrounded by a private army with semi-automatic rifles.

Should Australians be allowed to have a local Christmas celebration down at the local beachfront?
