Up to half of all international students are “gaming” the immigration system.
Many students don't come here for education; they come to stay. After their studies are over, they visa-shop to extend their stays until they get to stay permanently. They work in low-skilled areas that have nothing to do with their qualifications.
That not enough stress is put on English language proficiency before students are admitted to Australia is a problem if they do get work here. Many who speak English “after a fashion” are very hard to understand because of their accents. They “might as well be speaking Martian”.
The ISPO report also admits that there is also a real issue with “cultural fit”, with international students who do not “regularly engage with Australians”, and work with people of their own culture, further degrading their language skills.
The number of these people coming to Australia have increased from 410,000 in 2013 to 925,000 in 2025.
Even if they don't try to stay, 78% of students respond to the “pull factor” that allows them to compete - often much cheaper - with locals for work. And it's no secret what they have done to housing availability.
But, who listens? Certainly not the uniparty, nor their unelected ‘advisers,’ who are always there, pulling the strings, no matter who we vote for
