You need to understand that as a modern democracy this means politicians looking after their political donors, and well they can lie about everything else, no consequences it's part of the election cycle, stuff the electorate, what do they know anyway?

And given the citizens are just a bag of all sorts now, well they will listen to us even less than they ever did, except when the have to pretend to care.
