Anton Chekhov's beliefs would make a strong foundation for an opinion and discussion site.

Compliant (1),
Hurt (2), Fearful (4), Suspicious (6), Proud (7), Obsessive (8), Stressed (conclusion). "Civilised" is derived from "city". Survival in cities demands certain traits. Is it really so wonderful to be a civilised city person? - http://www.thefablecottage.com/fables/city-mouse-and-country-mouse Posted by Yuyutsu, Monday, 28 July 2025 3:48:49 PM

Civilised means to maintain order & harmony to no decent person's detriment !

Dear Indyvidual,
«Civilised means to maintain order & harmony» Well if you have harmony, then what do you need order for? In cities, due to population density, you need order to avoid stepping on each other's feet, otherwise you won't even have a semblance of harmony. But in the country, in the uncivilised land where plenty of space is available, harmony is possible even without order! Posted by Yuyutsu, Tuesday, 29 July 2025 1:51:08 PM

As rosy as Philosophy can sound to those fortunate enough to take notice of it, it does not have much pull in everyday life.
Law & Order are what's keeping us reasonably safe in reasonable harmony. The only shifter in the cogs of that reasonable existence is Democracy. Whilst a good thing philosophically, in real life Democracy is literally a fast-track to dictatorship conditions for minority groups. Democracy has a lot of shortcomings & one of them is the ease of exploiting & manipulating democratic ideals. Just look at Australia's Voice mess. The majority (democratic) vote did not ensure for the matter to be settled. Non-wealth contributing Minority groups are not giving up & goes against all democratic ideals of harmony & order. Australia really needs a referendum on migration & the future of the Nation once & for all. Do most Australians want this to be a Christian-based society in accordance with the founding basics or do Australians want it to become a less cohesive Demographic society. If Albanese & Labor are not forced to hold a referendum before the next federal election, the opportunity to remain a reasonably civilised Nation will be missed. Dear Indyvidual,
This IS a philosophical thread and it is "uncivilised" to hijack a general philosophical discussion for petty contemporary local political issues, what more that the issues you brought are already presently being discussed on multiple other threads. «Law & Order are what's keeping us reasonably safe in reasonable harmony.» No, that is an illusion: law and order cannot keep you safe - only God can, so if you are keen on being safe, the one thing you can do about it is to straighten your record with God by being kind to all his children, great and small. Dear Indyvidual,
«Which God are you referring to ?» Why, is there [in your view] more than one? Posted by Yuyutsu, Thursday, 31 July 2025 12:50:06 PM

Keep your extremist fantasies about an Australian xian theocracy where they belong. Sky after dark idiot boards. Utterly ridiculous idea and one I would fight to the end.

Dear Mikk,
«Utterly ridiculous idea and one I would fight to the end.» So whom are you going to fight? Yourself?!? Fight the idea if you like, no worries, but God is not an idea! God is not particularly xian, nor particularly Australian - God is everywhere, in everything, there is no particle or space which is not God and where God is not, including in your own body and in your own mind - we already live in a perfect theocracy where there is nothing but God, where everything is made of God, who rules over Himself/Herself/Itself unchallenged, because whatever seems to challenge God... is also God too! R.I.P Fr Chris Riley, dead at 70. A true humanitarian, a good bloke, who did so much for the troubled youth of Sydney through 'Youth Off The Streets'. A truly sad day for all who knew Fr Chris.

Yuyutsu, It'd be great if he could love the trouble makers a lot less & their victims a little more ! Posted by Indyvidual, Saturday, 2 August 2025 6:17:42 AM

Dear Indyvidual,
«It'd be great if he could love the trouble makers a lot less & their victims a little more !» How much is infinity + 1000? How much is infinity - 1000? God's love to every one is infinite. Posted by Yuyutsu, Sunday, 3 August 2025 12:00:37 AM

1. A civilised person shows respect for the individual and is therefore always indulgent, gentle, polite and compliant. They do not throw tantrums.
2. A civilised person has compassion which extends beyond their immediate surrounds. They are hurt by things their naked eye can't see.
3. A civilised person respects the property of others, and therefore pay their debts.
4. A civilised person is always candid and fears the lies of others. They never lie themselves.
5. A civilised person does not belittle oneself to arouse sympathy. They do not play on others emotions to get what they want.
6. A civilised person is not preoccupied with their own vanity. They are not taken in by false friendships.
7. A civilised person realises their abilities and are proud of them. They use those abilities to exert an uplifting influence on others.
8. A civilised person concerns themselves with beauty, appreciates it in all its forms, and holds it dear.
According to Chekhov a person must work at being civilised constantly. They must never stop reading, studying, listening, constantly exercising their mind and will.
If Chekhov is correct how do we apply that in the world today?
