One week after the election, in what can only be described as an act of betrayal Jcinda Price has quit The National Party to joint the Liberals. Returned to the Senate as candidate for the CLP in the Northern territory, the endorsed CLP candidate must be a member of the National Party. Price claims she can be "more effective" as a Liberal than a national, HOW? The truth is Price used the National's as a vehicle to further her own political ambitions. She will nominate for deputy leader under Angus Taylor, on the far right ticket, against the more moderate right winger Susan Ley. Advice to Ley, withdraw, let Taylor and Price head the opposition, backed up by Mad Mat Canavan as Nationals leader, and with that threesome of political galah's in charge, thing will only go pear shaped, take a tilt at the leadership then.

Could Labor ask for anything better, than having 'Sqizzy' Taylor as Noalition band master, with Priceless and Mad Mat Caravan blowing the TRUMPets from far right field. Then of course there is the alternative, Squeaky Lie and Davy Littlechance, all promising to put a nuclear reactor in your backyard! Going to be fun for the next 3 years, could be 6, maybe 9, etc etc.

What's the point?
If she resigns then another politician will take her place - a very expensive and inefficient pest-control method! Posted by Yuyutsu, Saturday, 10 May 2025 7:39:29 PM

Dear Paul 1405, . You ask : « Should Liberal Senator Jacinda Price Resign From Parliament? » . Jacinta Nampijinpa Price is a highly controversial indigenous politician, a Warlpiri woman of the Alice Springs region, and a senator of the Northern Territory, but she is largely rejected by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as not representing their interests. She was elected by mostly (if not exclusively) non-Indigenous Australians to the Senate of the Northern Territory in 2022 and has the right to continue in that office for 6 years until 2028. Australia is a free liberal democracy. I don’t see why she should resign, even though I don’t share her enthusiasm for Trump-style politics. As a member of the Country Liberal Party, she can sit with whichever party room she chooses. . Posted by Banjo Paterson, Sunday, 11 May 2025 2:43:43 AM

Hi BP,
As I understand it the CLP in the Northern Territory is much like the LNP in Queensland, and members are also members of their respective National and Liberal parties. In the case of Jacinda Price her membership was with the National Party from which she resigned to join the Liberal Party. To answer my own question, the answer is no. I believe when a person is elected there is no binding contract, or obligation, to represent the particular party, that the candidate was a member of at the time, even though many would argue that its was that party affiliation that got that person elected in the first place. No, a politicians obligation is to their constituents, first and foremost, party comes a distant second. Price saying she can be "more effective" sitting with the Liberals, is somewhat cynical, more to further her personal political ambitions, me thinks.
