Hi again BP,

Just a correction, you said; "She was elected by mostly (if not exclusively) non-Indigenous Australians to the Senate of the Northern Territory in 2022 and has the right to continue in that office for 6 years until 2028."

That's incorrect, Territory Senators, 2 for each, ACT and NT, are only elected for 3 years, not 6 as is the case with those from the states. price was again reelected in 2025. There is a case for the territories to return 4 Senators on 6 year terms inline with the states who have 12 each.

The only interesting thing about Australian politics is Senator Matt Canavan's challenge for the leadership of the Nationals. It's a pity that the membership can't make a decision as much as it is a pity that the Liberals were landed with Dutton for the same reason.

There is just too much wrong with our system: idiotic compulsory and preferential voting; politicians ONLY electing someone to lead the country; 6 year terms for the nincompoops who can get into the Senate with none of the requirements that apply to the Lower House candidates; politicians being allowed to make a career of politics.

Of the 150 seats in Parliament, only 50 of successful politicians received 50% or more of the votes. In most seats, votes went to a shower of odds and sods candidates who were never going to make a difference, and who never campaigned because they couldn't afford to. Useless!

67% (a fair majority) voted for the Uniparty. The 34.7% for Labor, 32.2% for the Coalition indicates the Labor would have won if the remaining 33% didn't have candidates who will never be in government to vote for. ‘Others’ 13.1%; Greens 11.8%; One Nation 6.3%; Trumpet of Patriots 1.9%.

To my mind, all these minor parties are nothing more than an expensive and irritating nuisance, the few of whom manage to get themselves into the Senate being there for a well paid job only, and the chance to sound off every now and again.

Life would be much simpler and better if there were two very different parties who were interested in Australia and Australians rather than themselves.

Simplification is necessary for Australian voters who are unable or to, or too lazy to take politics seriously. There is Left and there is Right, despite the waffle about nuances. We need one party of each, and first past the post voting.

At least Mr. Trumpet has decided to get out of the game. The rest should realise that time is up for them too. Australians are just not interested.

JacinTa - not JacinDa - and what she does or doesn't do is unimportant. Had she not been half-aborignal she would not have received the sickening adoration that she has.

All she did for the Voice was to make dinky-di aborigines hate her more than they already did. It was the voters who did what had to be done to the Voice, not some glory-seeking politician.

When she was accused of Trumpism because she didn't choose who words correctly (fatal for a politician) she spluttered that she didn't mean to, and apologised. She followed Dutton, apologising for, and backing down from, policies that made sense just because Australia's equivalent of 'Pravda' made a fuss.

Price's hopping over to the Liberals because she believes the nonsense that she could PM, just puts her among other Liberals who should quietly retire and make way for conservatives, who would rename the party, and become a genuine option to socialism in our two party system.

ttbn,

You rubbish minor parties and independents as being irrelevant, claiming, "(they are) never going to make a difference", when in fact they do make a substantial contribution to political outcomes through their balance of power positions and the use of preferencing at election time. The alternative is an American style of oligarchy government with the seat of power in the hands of one person and their confidants. Our Westminster system, although not perfect, is far more democratic than the American Presidential system.

Being a conservative all your life, and now in your twilight years, you look back through the lens of your rose coloured glasses, and hanker for those "good old days" when ice creams cost sixpence, and the local picture theatre screened Hopalong Cassidy flicks on a Saturday afternoon, and your way of thinking made you king of the kids. You think some great conservative messiah is going to rise up from the failure and restore some lost Utopia of conservatism, just for you. Back in 2019 you believed Corny Banana was the reincarnation of 'Pig Iron' Bob, now its Mad Caravan as the new messiah. The only problem with an Australian Conservative Party is it would be totally irrelevant to the vast majority, and would end up on the political scrap heap, just like your 2019 mob, and now its Fat Clive and his Trumpet Of Failure Party, on the scrap heap!

Nuremberg Dan,

A bit of Dr Hook is ok, but the other song was total sh!t. Anyway I though you were exclusively a Richard Wagner devotee. After the election result there was no triumphant torchlight procession into the stadium for you and the lads, how unfortunate. What happened!

More unfortunate was your Bugle Of Buillsh!t turned into the Flugelhorn Of Failure. What can we expect next from your political ensemble, the Harpsichord Of Hopelessness?

If your coal fired puter' has sound, then listen to these words of wisdom from your next party leader. its an improvement on what Dud Dutton had to offer, should be more appealing to the punters.

This came up so just for you from me.
