Members of his cabinet were “snowed” by “progressive” public servant activists”.
That's enough for some people to ask, ‘what is the point of voting when the people we vote for are bossed about by people we don't vote for’.
The small ‘l’ liberals (aka Leftists who have infiltrated the Coalition) took the line that the “experts” know best. Abbott made it clear that he believes that his government was thwarted from the very beginning by a “Leftist Canberra establishment”. And, his ministers were not “sufficiently robust to stand up to officials”.
Abbott, himself a genuine conservative and tough guy, couldn't do anything about it; can a less conservative and not-particularly-impressive Peter Dutton pull the public service into line?
Abbott mentioned that Donald Trump had a similar experience in his first term, and he is not going to allow it to happen this time.
But, Peter Dutton ain't no Donald Trump.
Nor is the Liberal Party like the US Republican party. Mr. Abbott still refers to his party as “centre-Right”. In this cruel world, you have to be right or left: the ‘centre’ is a wishy-washy mess - John Howard's ridiculous “broad church”.
Abbott goes on with what he would do if he had his time over again; but that is irrelevant to the here and now.
Of course a Dutton-led government would be better than the awful Albanese Labor failed experiment. But that's not saying much.
