For those in Melbourne there's a party tonight from 5pm at Parliament House to celebrate the end of Daniel (Robespierre) Andrews reign of terror... wish I could be there.

The so called "World Wide Rallies for Freedom" are
professional demonstrators who've had charges laid against them in London, and other capital cities. Not sure who pays them. But it's all a bit suss. Today's event outside Parliament House in Melbourne will be another such event where shocking signs will be on show as protesters demonstrate for "freedom." It is not a City of Melbourne organised event and police will be out in full force. These people made headlines when they demonstrated against Covid restrictions and anti-vaccines. Swastika signs and an effigy of a school girl in a coffin with a vacine in her arm were on show as protesters rallied against Covid lockdowns and vaccines. I for one would not be attending this sort of rally. Posted by Foxy, Wednesday, 27 September 2023 1:41:32 PM

Daniel Andrews certainly was a controversial figure.
Love or loathe him could apply. He had his supporters, but he also had many against him for his strict lockdown restrictions, the effect this had on small business, plus many other issues. Yet he managed to get re-elected. It will now be up to the Liberal Party to get organised, unite and see if they can win next time around. As for what the legacy of Daniel Andrews will be? It's still too early to tell. Jeff Kennett, former Victorian Premier was very gracious when questioned on the news last night. He confirmed that we needed to wait and see concerning the man's legacy. He did stress though that the Liberal Party now needs to get their party united and work out a strategy where to go next. I really like Victorian Senator James Paterson. I hope that he will have some input here. As for who will succeed Daniel Andrews as Premier. I don't know. I don't know anything about his deputy, and certainly not who else would be a suitable replacement. I think that the resignation of Andrews is a gift that's been given to the Liberal Party. And whether the Liberal Party Leader will know how to make the most of it - only time will tell. I'm not too keen on Mr Pesutto. I think the Party can do much better than him. CM,
You fool no one, Andrews was a middle order moderate politician. His going does not concern me in the least, that's politics. You calling Andrews a Robespierre type figure is laughable. With your obsession with Communism and non existent Communists in society, indicates YOU are the extremist and more likely, given the opportunity, to act the Robespierre. Fortunately, most of your kind never realise that opportunity, just babble on about it. Posted by Paul1405, Thursday, 28 September 2023 5:54:00 AM

Victoria now has a new Premier - Jacinta Allan, and
a new Deputy Ben Carroll. Both grew in regional Victoria and appear to be experienced and highly qualified people. But I guess only time will tell in which direction they'll lead. Interesting times ahead. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 28 September 2023 8:11:48 AM

Daniel Andrews has had so many good wishes sent his way
from people of all political persuasions. As Jeff Kennett stated his legacy will be shown in the years to come. As a Victorian - I was grateful for the stance he took against COVID. I an my family received all of our shots and the boosters as well. Recently I had surgery and spent a great deal of time in a public hospital and also later in their Transition Care Program. The care I received was incredible. First class. I consider myself very lucky. Even now - I am receiving help. I cannot complain about the Premier's actions in what he's done. So far I feel that Victorians have done well as a result of this man's actions. I hope that all of the infrastructure projects that he started will be completed by his successor. To me he did a great deal, and I hope that Victoria will continue to do well. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 28 September 2023 9:48:27 AM

My guess is that something very bad for Andrews, or Victoria as a whole, is about to hit the fan, & Andrews is getting out of the way now to leave the mess to his replacement.

Hi Hassie,
We'll have to wait and see won't we? Jeff Kennett and others didn't seem to think so. Not even the radio shock jocks. They all thought that the man simply had had enough. It will be interesting to see what he does next though. I can't help wondering where his life-path will lead him to next. Our politicians are well provided for. They get a huge pay out for life, plus other perks. suck as an expense account and a driver. Amazing perks. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 28 September 2023 10:40:11 AM

As I understand- in Victoria the Labor Party was dominated by the Far Left Faction- ie. Daniel Andrews probably wasn't moderate - perhaps the new Deputy Leader Ex-Transport Minister is from the Right Faction of the Labor Party. Apparently it's a tradition for the leader and deputy leaders to come from a balance of the factions. But Jacinta Alan and Daniel Andrews were apparently both from the Far Left Faction despite this rule. This perhaps indicates the dominance of the Far Left Faction within the Labor Party in Victoria.
Hopefully this means that Victorian politics will be slightly better until the next Victorian election- and will be seen to govern closer to the will of the electorate. A challenge for Traditionalists is to get the electorate to start asking the questions- Is what the politicians tell them is in their self interest really in their interest? I'm not a Victorian so don't really care all that much.
But for me the enduring legacy of the rule of Chairman Dan was the authoritarian lockdowns instituted by he and his sidekicks with the single most memorable thing being Victorian police firing on peaceful protestors. A dark day for Australia and, I fear, an excuse for similar Gestapo tactics by Dan's successors. Posted by mhaze, Thursday, 28 September 2023 6:35:38 PM

Daniel Andrews’ “record” has only been possible because of Victorians’ peculiar love of Leftist authoritarianism and the truly pathetic absence of any Liberal opposition. There's not much hope for Victoria or Victorians.
The awful creature went out on a lie: he had said that he would serve a full term. Communists China' s need for him must have become urgent. The worst premier ever; described by one commentator as the "thug's thug". Posted by ttbn, Friday, 29 September 2023 8:55:06 AM

" Daniel Andrews leaves office with the latest poll
indicating a commanding two-party lead for Labor of 56.5 - 43.5 - an increase on the 55 - 45 lead at the last election." "Unsurprisingly, Andrews has done it in his own time and on his own terms - a feature of his premiership. Not for him the wishy washy, let's try to please everybody starting with the media approach. He knew - as all progressive politicians would do well to note - there is no pleasing Australia's rabid media cabal." Posted by Foxy, Friday, 29 September 2023 9:29:32 AM

Dear Foxy,
I think he did a great job during Covid. He fronted up every morning without fail to take every question the press asked of him. He didn't shirk one bit. And the rightwing Murdoch press hated him for it. The pack hunts best when the prey is on the run and Andrews just never turned. I am concerned about the debt levels but unlike Morrison government there has been huge infrastructure projects which will serve this state well into the future. I do think the Labor party needs a term in opposition soon to smarten up but without a credible alternative that is going to be a difficult ask. Post-truth mhaze,
Chairman Dan? How Murdoch of you. Peaceful protestors? They largely were up until the end when attacks on police started including the throwing of batteries and full cans. I know an officer who was there arresting agitators who had his partner receive a head injury from a thrown object. It required a stay in hospital. And you really couldn't help yourself with the Gestapo jibe either. Bloody hell, you really are ticking all the boxes for a full RWNJ classification aren't you. Can you look back and identify the turning point for you? I mean we use to have willing discussions but I was never dealing with this level of indoctrination. Been quite a slide. Anyway back to Andrews. We here in Victoria decided he had been doing a good job with the interests of Victorians at heart. That is why he got back in with a record majority in the last election. Those outside our state can just live with it. Posted by SteeleRedux, Friday, 29 September 2023 10:36:14 AM

Dear Steele,
I agree with your take on Andrews. Victoria has done well during COVID - and hopefully as you point out shall benefit from the infrastructure projects that Andrews put in place. What happens next we'll have to wait and see. But a high standard has been set - which hopefully will continue no matter who's in government. The Liberal Party in Victoria does have its work cut out for it to at least try to match the standard set by Andrews. Victorians won't settle for anything less. We've been having family discussions on what
our former Premier Dan Andrews is going to do next. Not immediately of course, he deserves to play golf for a while. However, I'm predicting that eventually he could be offered the Consul-General's position in New York if he wants it. It would do him and his family the world of good to get out of town for a while. He'd be great at the job. Posted by Foxy, Friday, 29 September 2023 2:36:23 PM

Victoria is lucky
It's pollies are great Thanks to Dan Andrews It's now in great shape The Liberals are eyeing Their future they claim Belongs to them now And they're eager to blame A man who's now gone Ran the state with great ease Who did what he saw Instead of aiming to please The game will be played Now anything goes With a man from Calabria Aware of his foes His party wants victory In this well run state But Victorians want someone who'll lead They don't need a mate. "I am concerned about the debt levels but unlike Morrison government there has been huge infrastructure projects which will serve this state well into the future."
Are they all those regional projects for Commonwealth Games? Oh wait....! Still, the Games did their job. How many votes did the false promise of the games elicit...and it only cost $300 million or so...a bargain. "Peaceful protestors? They largely were up until the end when attacks on police started including the throwing of batteries and full cans." Yep, some people don't react well to the state enforcers using their monopoly on firearms to suppress opinion....go figure. "And you really couldn't help yourself with the Gestapo jibe either." Agreed... it was rather graphic but, in my view, the police firing on protestors in order to suppress opinion the government doesn't approve of, is a turning point...and in an extremely bad way. "Those outside our state can just live with it." No, those outside Victoria have to just ensure they don't elect extremists who are prepared to use the apparatus of the state to suppress disagreeable views. post-truth mhaze,
You write: There is a commitment to build all of the games legacy projects. http://infrastructuremagazine.com.au/2023/07/18/regional-vic-package-announced-following-commonwealth-games-cancelation/ As for infrastructure spending Victoria has been hard at it: http://bigbuild.vic.gov.au/projects And continues to eclipse every other state by a large margin with 22.7% of the 2022-23 budget on infrastructure spending. http://infrastructure.org.au/australian-infrastructure-budget-monitor-2022-23/ The Covid protestors moved through the streets of Melbourne ending up at the Shrine at 1pm. They were given plenty of time to have their say and make their point until they were ordered to leave at 4pm, a full three hours after arriving. 95% of them did so peacefully but a hard core remained who were intent on confronting police. So no, this wasn't an issue of "supressing opinion". Only our cookers would think otherwise. Posted by SteeleRedux, Friday, 29 September 2023 7:32:04 PM

Now back to the topic.
Victorians have a huge amount of infrastructure projects in the works. A legacy that Andrews leaves behind. It will be something from which Victorians will benefit in the future and something of which they will all be able to be proud. Yes, there is a debt that will need to be paid. However, the projects will make it all worthwhile. Jacinta Allan and her team will provide safe hands for the state which has led in some great ways. Including in its treatment of its Indigenous people. A state which has provided an example for others to follow in so many directions. Of course Andrews has not been perfect - but he's done well. Victorians recognised that by re-electing him and keeping him in power for so long. The longest serving Labor Premier. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 1 October 2023 10:38:53 AM

Post-truth mhaze,
They were bean bag rounds used at a small core of protestors who were assaulting police. They were only deployed when police started getting injured from missiles being directed at them. "Two police officers received head injuries after being hit in the head, while a third was hospitalised with chest pain." http://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-victoria-melbourne-protesters-converge-on-war-memorial-shrine-of-remembrance/b7351c38-5f48-47e6-81b4-cd377ff1df38 The protests tied up hundreds of police who would otherwise be deployed keeping the community safe. At some stage it needed to end. Victorians recognise Andrews managed a difficult time showing leadership and resolve. That is why he was returned with a record majority. Get over it. Hi Paul,
Talking about kudos? In a certain Lithuanian dialect - they have a word very similar to kudos. It's spelt - Kudas. It means under-nourished of lean. (no meat). Which might be appropriate in this case here. Of course there's also another word - sudas. Meaning - excrement. (smile). Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 1 October 2023 3:35:56 PM

Still trying to justify police shooting on those who failed to agree with Dan, I see.
Students of history will understand how these incidents become, in hindsight, turning points in the history of nations. They will also understand that those who support their side rather than the national good, enable the slow decline of a people's freedoms. ________________________________________________________________ Paul, my 'kudos' was ironic. mhaze,
I can't take you seriously any more. The presidency of Donald Trump has been the most corrupt and criminal in American history and Americans remain a bitterly divided nation. Nearly all senior members of his administration, including his family have broken laws that demand trial and imprisonment. Trump and his associates face state-level crimes, ranging from tax evasion , money laundering, bank and insurance fraud. To name just a few. Then there's the civil cases of sexual assault by dozens of women, accusations of rape. There are thousands of Trump's administration's crimes large and small. Plus his being personally responsible massive loans that run into billions. He's facing many prosecutions at the state and federal level. And you put all this under the umbrella of "J-Walking," and expect to be taken seriously. Please just go away. Posted by Foxy, Monday, 2 October 2023 3:17:59 PM

Yes, Foxy I get it. You've fallen for all the misinformation put out by the anti-Trump establishment.
Yes there are many trials going on. But surely you learned from Pell that being on trial isn't the same as being guilty. Oh wait, its Foxy...of course she didn't learn. I won't go too far into this since Foxy neither cares nor has the curiosity to understand, but Trump's legal travails are merely the result of a corrupt regime seeking to silence its main critic and most serious threat. Unsurprisingly, when you look at the dates for each of Trump's indictments you see that they come a day or two after evidence drops of more crime activity by the Biden crime family. Trump's indictments are merely a way to distract the gullible from looking into what the Dems have been up to....in the case of Foxy, a successful distraction Posted by mhaze, Monday, 2 October 2023 3:59:12 PM

mhaze,
Cardinal Pell got off on a legal technicality. Trump may well do the same. However, that doesn't mean that either one of them deserves being defended. Donald Trump is facing dozens of criminal charges and will go on trial several times in the next 18 months. The BBC has some excellent links on the web - for anyone interested to read about the charges involved. Of this "innocent" man. Posted by Foxy, Monday, 2 October 2023 4:26:59 PM

Jacinta Allan has shown that she won't be an
exact copy of the former Premier. She's chosen her new cabinet - and appears to be more flexible in her approach. She will see the projects completed that were started by the former Premier - and Victorians will benefit from them. However she has her own list of priorities as well - and hopefully Victorians will approve. Prospects are looking good. Mathew Guy has returned to Liberal politics in Victoria. I know Mathew. He's very ambitious - and it will be interesting to see if he challenges the current leadership. My advice would be - don't do it. Wait until the man loses his seat. You typed: “They will also understand that those who support their side rather than the national good, enable the slow decline of a people's freedoms.” Utterly true statement from you. The national good was served by our leaders seeking to have as many of us as possible vaccinated before facing the worst of Covid. This allowed freedom from the death rates seen in other countries who let it rip. It is one of the main functions of government and ours did us proud. Hi Foxy,
"The presidency of Donald Trump has been the most corrupt and criminal in American history and Americans remain a bitterly divided nation." Let me tell you, The Clinton Foundation were sooo corrupt, that it would make even Joe and Hunter Biden blush. Trump really wasn't that corrupt at all that I can see. Time and time again others have tried to tell you, and time and time again you refuse to listen. Watch this, it's the backstory to one of his claimed discretions. The video goes for 4 minutes and it's a really easy watch. Maybe it will help you to finally understand that not everything actually is as it seems to you. (And maybe it won't, but it's worth a try) Trump FOUND GUILTY! Here's the OTHER SIDE Of The Story!! http://youtu.be/UMH8Rl5dAP4 Posted by Armchair Critic, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 3:55:43 PM

A comment on an above comment link....
The other side of the story is that the financial institutions were complicit in these dealings. They allowed 'self assessment' for valuations? So both sides have deviated from the norm. But apparently, neither side lost money. So have they done something criminal? Valuations are not an exact science anyway? Posted by Ipso Fatso, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 4:35:02 PM

Dear Armchair Critic,
Well I did go and have a look at your video and what a mistake laden piece of rubbish it was. The judge didn't decide the value of Trump's properties, an independent assessor did. Mar-a-Largo wasn't valued at 18 million by the assessor as asserted by the Youtube host but rather 28 million. Perhaps you might find someone who at least tries to be accurate, and if you do let me know and I will endeavour to watch it. Posted by SteeleRedux, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 5:15:54 PM

Dear Ipso Fatso,
So you believe Jewish heirs who are recipients of German reparation money should return it? "From 1945 to 2018, the German government paid approximately $86.8 billion in restitution and compensation to Holocaust victims and their heirs. Germany has also identified Nazi-looted objects – including art works, books, and objects within larger collections – and has returned 16,000 objects to survivors and their heirs over the last 20 years. Thousands more pieces of looted art are still missing worldwide." http://www.state.gov/reports/just-act-report-to-congress/germany/ Posted by SteeleRedux, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 5:19:19 PM

18 million or 28 million, makes no difference.
- It's worth magnitudes more than that, based on the value of other properties in the area. Why don't you start over and have another go. Posted by Armchair Critic, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 5:25:24 PM

[Cont.]
By the way there's another fact I forgot Steelie, which was in Trumps disclaimer. In the documents Trump used to value his properties for the loans, there were disclaimers. The disclaimers made clear the valuations are unaudited, and may be inaccurate. This was made clear to the people approving the loans. Go look it up. I'd be willing to bet half of congress have done the exact same thing. Look at other things like Nancy Pelosi's completely legal insider trading that makes Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathoway annual percentage gains for its clients look amateurish. One standard for the ruling class, and a different standard for everyone else. They make rules to enrich themselves, while large segments of the country live in poverty. A country that allows it's leaders to enrich themselves like that at the expense of everyone else, can't survive indefinitely. http://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/donald-trump-nancy-pelosi-warren-buffett-stock-market-trading-bill-2022-10 Posted by Armchair Critic, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 5:47:18 PM

Dear Armchair Critic,
The fact is the judge didn't make that assessment which is what was claimed in the video. In fact he is quite incensed by people claiming he did. http://nypost.com/2023/10/02/judge-implores-media-to-stop-saying-he-valued-mar-a-lago-at-18m/ The judge quoted a the Palm Beach Assessor who is responsible for valuing the property for taxation purposes. To lower those taxes Trump had signed away virtually every right for he or subsequent owners to every develop the land. "Trust for Historic Preservation, Donald Trump agreed that "Trump intend [s] to forever extinguish [his] right to develop or use the Property for any purpose other than club use (the 2002 Deed ). The 2002 Deed also specifically "limits changes to the Property including, without limitation, the division or subdivision of the Property for any purpose, including use as single family homes, the interior renovation of the mansion, which may be necessary and desirable for the sale of the Property as a single family residential estate, the construction of new buildings and the obstruction of open vistas ." Id. In exchange for granting the easement , Mar-a-Lago was taxed at a significantly lower rate (the club rate) than it otherwise would have been (the private home rate). NYSCEF Doc. No.903. From 2011-2021, the Palm Beach County Assessor appraised the market value of Mar-a - Lago at between $ 18 million and $27.6 million. NYSCEF No.905." http://int.nyt.com/data/documenttools/trump-judges-ruling/ce6de7d636227e1b/full.pdf Your bloke explained none of this even though he clearly had read the judgement. Hi SteeleRedux,
I was already aware of the fact that Mar-A-Lago can't be knocked down and developed, and I still say it's severely undervalued. Posted by Armchair Critic, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 9:57:37 PM

Dear Armchair Critic,
So are you saying Trump should have been paying far more tax than he was as the rate is worked out on the value of the property among other things? Posted by SteeleRedux, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 10:33:28 PM
| |
Hey Steelie,
I don't know, you've got me stumped there. What did Trump himself say it was worth? Was he using the 18 - 28 million in his own valuations for tax? Was the assessor that the judge used the same one Trump used? Plenty of other Palm Beach assessors have themselves said that Mar-A-Lago is worth a whole lot more than that. This was about loans as I understand it, not tax. I'll have to dig into it a little more. Posted by Armchair Critic, Wednesday, 4 October 2023 10:30:01 AM

He made the announcement at a press conference yesterday,
26th September after 9 years in office.
He will officially leave office at 5pm today (Wednesday 27th
September).
"When it's time, it is time," he said.
He's also resigned from his electorate of Mulgrave thus
deciding to leave politics altogether.
So many questions. And such a shock for so many people.
What's next for him?
Who's to take over the reins?
How will this affect the Liberal Party in Victoria?
How will this affect Victoria?
And the list goes on.
This certainly came as a bombshell.
An important debate to be had - as so much is riding on
what happens next.
