Yes shadowminister it was Labor that destroyed the car industry, but it happened long before Rudd/Gillard, it wax in the Whitlam era.

Remember the Button Plan? The progressive reduction in tariffs, & increases in local content. This forced car makers to pay excessively high prices for components which were simply uneconomic to manufacture here while facing increasingly cheaper imports.

The slow death was aided by ridiculous wage demands by unions. I think a fair days pay for a fair days work is a great idea, but someone needs to get the warfies & process workers to agree to get the idea to work.

Hassy,

When you were in the military, your productivity level was zero, you produced nothing, a bit of war mongering, but that don't count, right. Was your pay zero, based on your zero productivity?

village idiot,

Rising wages combined with static or falling productivity is what sinks entire industries with everyone losing their jobs.

But then the Greens are happy to fiddle while the ship sinks.

The TRILLION DOLLARS OF LIBERAL PARTY DEBT is a major factor in the difficulties now within the Australian economy. ScumO', the self appointed secret minister for everything, along with his useless side kick the incompetent Josh Friedbrain made a total stuff up of the economy. This pair of misfits loaded a 60 year debt onto Australia, with nothing to show for it. Thankfully the whole sorry bunch were booted from the government benches before that could do any further damage.

The Australia public are well aware of who are most responsible for creating Australia's TRILLION DOLLARS OF DEBT. Debt is not entirely a bad thing, when the money is put to good use and is at a manageable level. What we got from the pair of LIBERAL PARTY dim wits, ScumO' and Friedbrain, was total irresponsibility in borrowing billions, and squandering the lot, with "free money" with no strings attached, to billionaires from their side of politics. Now Australian's are being forced to go without such things as housing, education, health services infrastructure etc, all because of a pair of irresponsible dim wits from the LIBERAL PARTY in government went on a drunken spending spree, with our borrowed money.
