Rishi Sunak -A populist approach to the climate

According to CNN:

"Since coming into power, Sunak has been scrambling for wedge issues that could resonate with Britons and turn around his party’s woeful standing with the public. Small boat crossings of asylum-seekers, transgender protections and other so-called “culture war” battles have all been eagerly waged by a prime minister who vowed during his first leadership campaign last year to stop “woke nonsense.”

Sunak said Monday he wants to “max out” oil and gas developments in Britain’s North Sea, announcing an expansion in drilling for the fossil fuels.

And on Monday Chris Skidmore, a Conservative former energy minister ....said Sunak’s expansion of North Sea drilling puts him on “the wrong side of history.”

Few expect the new push to be an election-winner.

Sunak has failed to shake the increasingly sticky label applied to him – that he is a caretaker of the managed decline of the Conservative Party.

It appears that conservative politics is tanking all over the world.

If Sunak’s expansion of North Sea drilling puts him on “the wrong side of history.”, & is not an election issue, the poms have gone in bulk as crazy as Cris Bowen, & the UK is racing on it's way to becoming a 3Rd world country. God help our grand kids.

It is all part of the flapping about that is occurring because some
people are realising that all the renewables in the world won't fix
anything because there is nothing to fix.
However a different group of people are starting to realise that the
use of renewables is just not going to supply electricity for jobs
and home.
Another group wants all oil coal & gas shut down and no nuclear as a
replacement.
All these positions are totally incompatible and there is no room
for compromise.

So relax and enjoy the fireworks !

Some Conservatives in the UK are pushing for the government to hold a referendum on net zero. Now that'd be interesting....asking the people what they think about having their lives upended.

But that's not how things work these days.

WTF?

Now the the full consequences of BREXIT are starting to be realised in the U.K. I don't think that Conservatives will be calling for any sort of referendum.
