If Sunak’s expansion of North Sea drilling puts him on “the wrong side of history.”, & is not an election issue, the poms have gone in bulk as crazy as Cris Bowen, & the UK is racing on it's way to becoming a 3Rd world country. God help our grand kids.

It is all part of the flapping about that is occurring because some
people are realising that all the renewables in the world won't fix anything because there is nothing to fix. However a different group of people are starting to realise that the use of renewables is just not going to supply electricity for jobs and home. Another group wants all oil coal & gas shut down and no nuclear as a replacement. All these positions are totally incompatible and there is no room for compromise. So relax and enjoy the fireworks ! Some Conservatives in the UK are pushing for the government to hold a referendum on net zero. Now that'd be interesting....asking the people what they think about having their lives upended.
But that's not how things work these days. Posted by mhaze, Thursday, 17 August 2023 1:15:06 PM

WTF?
Now the the full consequences of BREXIT are starting to be realised in the U.K. I don't think that Conservatives will be calling for any sort of referendum. Posted by WTF? - Not Again, Thursday, 17 August 2023 4:43:06 PM

Yep, agreed. Asking the people what their opinion is in a democracy is so 20th century.
Brexit has been a great success, although I'm sure CNN will have led you to think differently. Posted by mhaze, Friday, 18 August 2023 8:46:03 AM

WTF has Brexit, and the UK PM got to do with us and our country, is my question. More interesting and relevant is 'Quexit', which people who watch ADH TV would know about. I hadn't heard about it before, but it has been an issue over several years, apparently. There is a desire for far north Queensland to break away from Brisbane - which does nothing relevant to anyone beyond Rockhampton - to form a "7th state".
Forget the UK; ignore what goes on there just we ignore the catastrophic effects renewable energy is having there and in other countries further down the road to ruin than we are. Posted by ttbn, Friday, 18 August 2023 9:40:32 AM

A headline in the ABC site... "'Reality catching up with rhetoric' as coal-fired closure delayed".
When even the ABC can see the flaws in the net zero assertions, its only a matter of time before the fact-adverse crowd catch up. Oh and just to try to help them keep up with the rapidly unravelling 'settled science'.... "Another Eminent Scientist Dissents From the ‘Settled’ Science on Climate" http://dailysceptic.org/2023/08/17/another-eminent-scientist-dissents-from-the-settled-climate-science-narrative/ I've been seeing quite a few of these type of stories lately. As more and more scientists are prepared to put their careers on the line to tell the truth, it may well become an avalanche.... although as we all 'know', all avalanches are caused by CO2. </grin> Posted by mhaze, Friday, 18 August 2023 10:47:18 AM

Wrong ttbn, the government is very interested in north of Rocky, after all it is only coal mining royalties preventing total bankruptcy. There is a big stink in Qld right now after they increased exponentially royalty charges by 600%, to try to cover Annie's crazy spending.
Already 2 billion worth of projects have been cancelled. Talk about idiots killing the golden goose. No wonder the northerners want out, all the income comes from there, & none of the spending goes there. Posted by Hasbeen, Friday, 18 August 2023 3:18:12 PM

Since the illegal invasion of Ukraine gas and power prices have shot up. finding more gas in the North Sea is an ideal and simpler solution to reduce the cost of living. This is practical, not political.

"Since coming into power, Sunak has been scrambling for wedge issues that could resonate with Britons and turn around his party’s woeful standing with the public. Small boat crossings of asylum-seekers, transgender protections and other so-called “culture war” battles have all been eagerly waged by a prime minister who vowed during his first leadership campaign last year to stop “woke nonsense.”
Sunak said Monday he wants to “max out” oil and gas developments in Britain’s North Sea, announcing an expansion in drilling for the fossil fuels.
And on Monday Chris Skidmore, a Conservative former energy minister ....said Sunak’s expansion of North Sea drilling puts him on “the wrong side of history.”
Few expect the new push to be an election-winner.
Sunak has failed to shake the increasingly sticky label applied to him – that he is a caretaker of the managed decline of the Conservative Party.
It appears that conservative politics is tanking all over the world.
