The serious issue is.....

Gradual..slide into moral oblivion.

The blurring of 'right' and 'wrong'..the step by step decline in many things which a generation ago were considered right and proper.. such as respect for elders.. modesty....

The preponderance of pornography at just about every petrol service station.. sex shops.. ('adult' shops) the objectification of both male and female bodies.. mainly female, the absence of a sense of moral conscience which allows young men to 'revel' in the latest bestiality they have downloaded on to their mobile phones...
and now.. the final 'animal human' hybrids.

Taken in isolation, and a gradual exposure to these things means people do not sense the overall trend..or.. feel powerless to do anything about it.. and with the emergence of post modern thinking that 'truth is what we hold it to be' or something along those lines.. each individual can respond to reality as he/she sees fit...such that people not only feel powerless, but they also feel 'why' about doing anything..after all, we have abandoned 'myths' about God... who died about a century ago...

Shows like "Californication" use names which would be more suited to some low budget 'hump, grunt and shriek' sleazy porno flick that prime time TV.

Failure to recognize the trend..and each step on the journey, or to 'repent' of such things, will inevitably be our undoing.

But 'repent'....to what ? aah..thats the question. Some might suggest we are in a better condition today than we have ever been.. 'freeeedom' is great.. they say.. but is it ?

drip...drip...drop...

Clearly we are in trouble.

Boazy: "the absence of a sense of moral conscience which allows young men to 'revel' in the latest bestiality they have downloaded on to their mobile phones...

Boazy, I've noticed that when you launch into one of your 'moral oblivion' rants, you frequently reveal a rather unhealthy obsession with bestiality. Since you're apparently better informed than I am, please tell us what forms of bestiality are now apparently being practised with mobile phones? I shudder to think...

You also frequently complain about pornography being on sale at petrol stations - it occurs to me that when I purchase fuel (as I do far too often) I've never actually noticed pornographic material on sale. But then again, I haven't gone looking for it.

I heartily recommend the documentary series currently being repeated on SBS (Sunday nights) called "Decadence" to anybody interested in this social phenomenon.

It puts many seemingly innocent things into their correct context.

Boazy, I'm assuming that the "Our" in your title refers to those trying to live by what are almost prehistoric moral codes. I completly agree with the sentiment.

Of course anytime you choose to put aside those bit's that are about control, ownership and lack of respect for the rights of consenting adults you might find the descent to "Moral Oblivion" halted and find yourself engaged in an ascent towards a meaningful Moral/Ethical code that recognises the realities of human nature, that has respect for other peoples autonomy and is not built on hate or unnatural control.

Thanks for reminding us all of the failings of those almost prehistoric moralities and the need for us all to continue to ensure that our moral foundations are structured for the world we live in and the understanding we have of it. Imagine trying to live based on the understandings of 60 years ago let alone from thousands of years ago - I shudder at the prospect.

CJ Morgan, just be glad 9 year old girls have not come into it (yet).

It's only a matter of time, R0bert.

Then we'll have to run the whole gamut of MIUAYG, followed by the accusation that every atheist is a vicious animal, just waiting to prey on the weak and defenceless.

Night follows day.
