Senator Jim Molan, a former army major-general died
on Monday 16th January aged 72 after almost a 2 year
long battle with cancer.

Senator Molan has been remembered as a "man of principle,"
who served Australia for 4 decades in the armed forces and
5 years in parliament.

His death has led to speculation over who will fill his
Senate seat for the remainder of his 6 year term?

One unusual pick has been former Liberal Prime Minister
who lost his seat of Warringah in 2019 - Tony Abbott.

Will the party allow it?

Is it a good idea?

Your thoughts?

Foxy,
Not in my book ! he'd been handed the top job on a silver platter & what did he do ? Once such people have been voted out they should have the decency not to impose themselves onto the Nation's citizens again.
One way to solve that would be to put two contenders from each party up for selection by the voters. That way the party & the people will get a better bargain.

Foxy, it's wind and water.

A suggestion by "Former" party powerbroker, Michael Kroger, is all ... testing ... testing.

By convention the nominee of the political party concerned is appointed by the Stare government to fill a casual Senate vacancy. I assume Molan was of the Liberal right, so one from the right will get the nod. How about Nazi Dom or old deal Archy Pell.

Marisa Payne is the other candidate being mentioned
for the job. I'm not sure who will be the preferred
choice. Currently from what I've read the party is
mourning Jim Molan, as well as George Pell and their
leader Peter Dutton is talking down the Indigenous
Voice at every turn. So anything is possible.

Does the Liberal Party really want to go back to the
"glory days" of the 1950s and 1960s?

Foxy, Marise Payne was re-elected senator in the 2022 election.

She's already there.
