A celebration that ignores the plight of Palestine : Comments

By Antony Loewenstein and Michael Shaik, published 14/5/2008

Sixty years later the Palestinians are still paying for the Nazis' crimes.

The last line is a "ripper" . Whether it is original,I don't know. In the light of anything Loewenstein writes, I am ever ready to concede that I may be wrong. However, the poor desperate dispossessed dedemocratised Palestinians seem to have a lot of supoorters whose aim is to repeat, continue and finish the Nazis' crime.

The sympathy left over from the horrors of the holocaust is becoming very much overworked. What right did the Jews have to annex Palestine as 'their' country in the first place, and therefore to make the Palestinian people outcasts in their own country? That folio of fiction, myths, and distorted history collectively known as the 'holy' bible provides the only 'evidence' that the Jewish people have any fundamental connection to Palestine at all, whilst the archeological evidence for such a connection is almost non existent. The undeniable and huge contribution made and being made by Jewish people to our civilisation remains unchallenged - however the Western support (especially that of the USA) for the Jewish occupation of Palestine is largely a result of (alleged) biblical prophecy - a hodge-podge of wishful thinking and fairy tales. The Australian aboriginal people have more right to totally occupy Australia than do the Jewish people to totally occupy Palestine. My heart goes out to the Palestinian people who are humiliated and brutalised on a daily basis by invaders in their own land.

"I REMEMBER 1948" screened last night on SBS in a 11.45 P.M time slot and provided some first hand accounts of the Zionist invasion by survivors now in Australia for those late night T.V. watchers. If you missed it, it's available on DVD from <www.balladfilms.com.au> web page.
Also, of interest on Bigpond's home page this morning, originating from the ABC, A letter has come to light of Albert Einstein after 50 years in a private collection in which he denounces the Jewish biblical notion of 'the promised land' as a myth. He also has some forthright comments about God and religion which will surprise theists.
I agree, the Palestinians are still paying for the Nazis crimes and it is time the world body of the United Nations intervened and corrected it's outrageous blunder in supporting a Jewish State in Palestinian lamds.

Shame on both sides for prolonging this destraction.

[ALL LIFE COMES FROM GOD ]
[one creator god who weeps for every life stolen by men’s foolishness]

isn’t it time to look forward not back, ?

Time to give to god that which god alone did give to all living [our lives]

time to wake up from this nightmare , time to ask god for forgiveness and give each other [and our one god] peace [shalome]

all life is sacred BECAUSE only god can gave us our lives ]
be revealing the same mercy he has given in letting this insanity go on , wake up my brothers [ALL}.

It all comes clear there is no end plan.

the palistinians defeated since 1968] BUT the need for a new [neo] enemy to rally the voters see's the eternal manufacture of threats like lebinon or syria [always a new enemy to get past the next election].

Well there is an enemy my brothers [POVERTY] in the land of brothers let us fight poverty [from poverty of ideas , to poverty of Belief ]

[find real leaders willing to fight the real problem's not the same eternal enemy's long ago crushed , as the main problem [distraction]

One G-D gives all life their life to live [live with it ]that you do to the least [living] you do to god

God made the dust to live [made all life from dust] life glories god as well as our own creation [our own gift of life]
To take life is a blasphemy against god

Death serves not the life giver , but the great deceiver , to take any life [given of gods living love is not serving god]

Every man is your brother [every woman is your god given sister] Its time to welcome all god's children to see gods people doing service to life [to god given life

lets declare war and death the only enemy
lets end this division and full fill gods vision

lets live a life of love
[let live that the life giver gave to live ,our lives]

Nice one 'Under one god'

Its a pity you fail to realise that there are plenty of 'gods' and that no one can agree on who is right - unless you go the only logical answer that there is in fact NO god - and hey presto, problems like these have more chance of being sorted out without some silly notion of promised lands, spiritual and racial purity etc etc etc.

While Western leaders champion the cause of a Palestinian state, they prove themselves time and time again to be unwilling to condemn Zionism, even though it is the root cause of the sufferings and grievances of Palestinians. In failing to condemn it, they allow the popular appeal of Iran's president to grow in the hearts and minds of disenfranchised Palestinians and others who abhor the injustice of Israel's settlement program.

In a speech last Tuesday, according to Iran's Press TV, Ahmadinejad said, "The era of the Zionist literature and the Zionist political mechanism and the Zionist bullying policies has come to an end," earning him threats from our own Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to be charged in the International Criminal Court for being anti-Semitic!

Until Western leaders recognise their failure to condemn Israel for its Zionist policies, not only will they be allowing the Iranian regime, Hezbollah and Hamas to gain popular appeal, but they will also be presenting their own nations as Zionist collaborators.

One would be wasting one's valuable time to argue with Loewenstein and Shaik on this issue. One can only laconically say that they are IGNORING the incontestable historical fact that the CONTINUED "plight of Palestine" is Palestinian MADE.

Dear Maracas

You said:

"I agree, the Palestinians are still paying for the Nazis crimes"

I'm wondering, are you aware of the VERY close connection on the military level, between the Mufti of Jerusalem and Hitler PRE 1948?

Are you aware of the raising of a Bosnian Muslim SS division which was to deal with Jews? PRE 1948?

Please.. try to gain a balanced view of history.

This might help.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=0VtMimHF_1Y&feature=related

Arafat apparently had a blood line connection to that Mufti.

<<Husseini instigated bloody riots against the Jews in 1920-1921 and again in 1929. In 1929, Husseini concocted a story that the Jews praying at the Western Wall were taking over the Al-Aqsua Mosque. Sound familiar? He massacred the Jews at the Wall. This triggered a riot by Arabs in Hebron. On the Sabbath of August 24, Arabs murdered sixty-seven Jewish men, women and children in Hebron and destroyed the synagogues. This violent action brought an end to a Jewish presence in Hebron that had been there for thousands of years.>>

all this..BEFORE 1948.

Who's 'plight' should the world be considering

No matter how it is spun the Sheik of Jerusalem did not represent anyone, he was no more a collaborator with the nazis than England, the US, Europeans of all stripes and nations and he didn't commit the holocaust.

Why is it that so many zionists think it is OK to imprison and slaughter Palestinians who were not born in 1939 just because of the behaviour of one "leader"?

It was the nazis who committed the holocaust and last I looked they were Germans.

And for all the self righteous Australian's on this issue. IN 1938 at Evian, France we decided not to accept Jews from Germany on the basis that "as we don't have a racial problem, we are not desirous of importing one" - we are actually complicit in the holocaust not the Palestinians.

We locked up Jewish refugees in Hay, even in 2004 we were trying hard to deny refugee status to Jews from Russia on the spurious grounds that they could go to Israel.

After the war we imported at least 700 nazis because they were nice white Europeans just like us.

Now enough. The children of Palestine born today into the most dire poverty and prison had nothing to do with anything and yet they are being punished by jewish children born today.

It is quite amazing that Loewenstein still gets media space given how shoddy and deliberately misleading his quaint 1970s atheist international socialist “My Israel Question” shtick is.

1. Lies about Herzl, early Zionism and alleged ignoring of locals.

AL thunders “Herzl’s seminal essay on the Jewish state shamefully ignored the indigenous Arabs of Palestine.”

Well actually Ant, in 1895 Therzl assumed “that we shall go to Argentina,” and that “when we occupy the land, we shall bring immediate benefits to the state that receives us.” Herzl envisioned the future Jewish homeland would have to be built through treaties and voluntary land-purchases. He assumed that the influx of Jewish capital and technical knowledge would bring economic benefits to the indigenous populations. Which is absolutely did. Compare the situation of the Muslims in Israel today compared to others.

To accuse Herzl of ignoring the indigenous population when even the sources AL rely on say the exact opposite is not only sloppy; it is unethical. AL contradicts himself in the very same sentence insisting “even though it is clear that Herzl realised that the Palestinians would not simply disappear and make way for massive Jewish immigration. It was perhaps the first but certainly not the last time that the Palestinians were treated simply as if they didn‘t exist.”

AL qualifies this in a footnote. “Palestinian Israeli writer Nur Masalha has proven that Herzl did not entirely ignore the indigenous population and even hoped some would stay and be grateful for Zionism’s generosity.” Putting aside the fact that historians do not seek to “prove” anything, is Herzl now redeemed from shame? Well, no. AL continues as though Masalha’s intra-sentence contradiction had never happened.

And how could Herzl “realise that the Palestinians would not simply disappear if Herzl “shamefully ignored” them? Besides I challenge AL to produce Muslim and Arab writers who acknowledged the existence of “Palestinians” during these early days.

Even as late as 1977 a PLO executive committee member said

The Palestinian people does not exist. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese..

"According...declarationofIndependence, governments are instituted among men to secure the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to abolish it."

and the answer to the problem...

first one needs to learn to differentiate 'image of act' and 'fact of act'...eg hitler/nazi government...read his speeches ie 'image '(http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler) and compare with act ie'fact'...one immediately notices the wide discrepancy...so question is what were the people doing while parliament/government/judiciary acting so 'antisocially' on large scale...

leading to question...is if each 'individual of society' own responsibility of ensuring by constant vigilant attention, as an extension of same care they take of their own 'space', that their parliament/judiciary/government they formed 'acts as intented' without developing 'its own personality'...accepts she/he forwards to some other...or worse 'it' to parliament/judiciary/government itself...this fundamental duty...is the essential cause of separation of 'state' from its 'people' with time...yep...if no people then there is no state...and guessing most ordinary prudent person's say yes

so forming of a 'state' by 'people' requires people to be 'active' participants with own clear understanding of where 'point of balanced outcome' is...to head towards...meaning each citizen well educated to practical realities of life...easier then to identify those trying to obstruct/redirect for own benefit and separate from civil society...assuming civil society is what majority of civil population want...so yes...it all starts with our young ones...babies...so organized self-interested group want dominant control over its society logic says attack at 'babies' and on to dumb the population in one life cycle...so especially watch 'physical emotionalhealth/education of children' very carefully...developing skills to get to the 'fact' through the 'image'...yep...feminists attacked this very thing...(child 6 and less separated from their 'positive_emotionally dependent parent/carer' in childcare for extended periods in a day is a very stressed child...)

so palestinian issue...after mass full disclosure and debate...carefully worded national referendum involving palestinians/israeli...separate independant land ie own currency etcx...or separate state with open borders with common good administration...and all children together taught both languages ie arabic/hebrew...I know in fair trusting environment where majority will be...

Thank Christ I am not Palestinian or of German or Eastern European stock. My family are not riddled with guilt or denial and are not restricted in what occupations they can follow, where they can live and work.

GYM_"What right did the Jews have to annex Palestine as 'their' country in the first place, and therefore to make the Palestinian people outcasts in their own country?"
The Jews have lived in Judaea for millennia. Palestine was never a country anyway, and large amounts of the Mandate were stolen by Egypt and Jordan. I don't see you lambasting either country. The so-called Palestinians are largely of Arab descent and therefore descendants of Arab invaders, if they are not descendants of recent Syrian or Egyptian immigrants, attracted to the region by, you guessed it, efficient Jewish agriculture.

There is plenty of archaeological evidence for long-term Jewish occupation of Israel (historically JUDAEA = "land of the Jews"). There is almost none for other peoples, and I find it interesting that you don't mention Muslim claims to Jerusalem, which are extremely tenuous, and only vociferously voiced for around a century, coinciding with claims to "Palestinian" nationhood.

I'm not religious and don't need to consult the Bible or Torah to elucidate moral support for Israel, and I don't need to rely on a wellspring of sentiment over the Holocaust either. Israel is a tiny sliver of productive land surrounded by vast areas of Muslim backwardness. The Israelis are welcome to their tiny parcel of land- the "Palestinian question" is a nonsense thrown up from Muslim pique over losing several wars and another part of "dar-ul Islam"
