The 2023 women’s World Cup shows Australia’s love of football and our maturity as a nation : Comments

By Chris Lewis, published 14/8/2023

Australia has come a long way since the 1970s when football was often described as wogball, Melbournians described the rugby codes as open air wrestling, and the northern states (NSW and Queensland) viewed Australian Rules as aerial ping pong.

we don't want to see any more of the Noalitions $100 million Sports Rorts, now do we.
Paul1405,
Too late, Labor's already doubled that !

Indy,

The Noalition promised $50 million more than Labor for women's sport with $250 million. I'm not opposed to government expenditure for sports development at a grass roots level, on a needs basis. The Noalition and their 'Sports Rorts' was a purely political exercise to win votes, that I don't agree with.

The fastest growing spot in Australia is 'Pensioner Popping'. It needs a big injections of government cash now, about $1 billion me thinks for starters. Cash desperately needed for new targets, guns and ammunition! At the recent PP National Championships held at Humptybong Qld, Australian champion Fred Zinglepeck set a new world record by popping 247 pensioners in 30 minutes, surpassing the old record of 243 popped pensioners set by Zog Thordunny of Finland in 2021! I bet you didn't know that. I ask, where is the recognition for Fred? Albo didn't even turn up to wave the flag! Disgusting. Australia should be building on Fred's success! Australia should be making a concerted bid for the 2035 World Pensioner Popping Cup, me thinks it could be staged for a paltry 10 or 12 billion dollars, where are you Dan? Of course a new 250,000 seat stadium will have to be built, which in not in the budget, we'll deal with that later. I propose the new Stadium be constructed on the present site of the Sydney Opera House. What a great idea! Spend, spend, spend! And we get a new stadium, and, get rid of that eyesore at the same time, a win, win for all!
