Ottawa’s suicidal climate plans a cautionary tale for governments everywhere : Comments

By Tom Harris and Jay Lehr, published 19/4/2022

Politicians leading the City of Ottawa have fallen hook, line and sinker for climate alarmism and, as a consequence, Canada's national capital is on the verge of a deadly self-induced crisis.

I agree we need to do something about human caused climate change. And given we use the brains we were born with, by transitioning to nuclear energy. And not conventional nuclear energy, but rather, MSR thorium, now that the bugs in the prototype have been ironed out.

And because it's safer and cheaper than all the other available alternatives including renewables. Always providing we can keep it out of the hands of price gouging energy barons! And also control freak union heavies!

This means we should roll these things out as co-op owned and controlled projects and given this is the case? See energy prices as low as 1 cent PKWH. An essential requirement will be government involvement as facilitators and project off budget financiers!

This will do 2 things, address climate change and turbocharge the economy at the same time!

It will need a government not in the pocket of the unions or energy barons! And that is where the real problem and road blocks exist! Until this factor changes! We will remain on track for an unstoppable extermination event!

If we want MSR thorium, we can obtain finished reactors in twelve months. We can put our people in place with the build so they can be up to speed with operation and maintenance as they're installed!

We in Australia know all about "suicidal climate plans". Both parties, plus the Greens, and so called independent Voices think that we want to be part of a Jonestown-type mass suicide cult brought on by 'climate action'.

Hi Alan B. Thanks for your comments. However good and important nuclear power is, it is not a "solution" to climate change since, while it does reduce humanity's CO2 emissions, those emissions are not a major contributor to climate change.

Why promote nuclear as a solution to something that is not a problem? I think we should promote nuclear because it is reliable, cost effective and safe, not because of some fictitious contribution to affecting the climate

I very much hope it is a tale people listen to. Unfortunately renewable energy is a horrible way to power a national grid, yet its hype gets uncritical approval. Light water reactors could have been built here over forty years ago and could have been providing cheap energy today and probably for another half century at least. I find irony in thinking that the Greens and the ALP were such vocal and violent opponents of a safe and clean technology that would have met some of their objectives to avert their imagined climate catastrophe. Even more ironic that many are more rabidly anti-nuclear today. Climate change ideology was born when socialism became an undeniable failure and the commies needed another bs ideology to paint liberal democracy as the font of evil.

Fester. Agree! However, conventional nuclear comes with the usual plethora of energy barons and parasites.

MSR thorium however is still free of these profit demanding paper shufflers.

And thorium is as common as lead, whereas, uranium is as scarce as platinum and still requires expensive enrichment to isolate U235. the fissile component. And the fuel rods need changing every four years or so, without companion reprocessing. And meltdowns are still possible if for any reason there is a power outage.

Whereas, in MSR thorium, a power outage will incur an automatic and safe shutdown due to passive safety design features! In fact it's walk away safe.

The uranium moguls make their money from their billion dollar enrichment. Enrichment refined metal thorium does not require!

And given just 8 grams costing around $100.00 to mine and refine would be enough to power your house and car for 100 years. Meaning, you could power house and car for a $1.00 a year.

So, when I talk about MSR thorium power that could cost as little as 1 cent PKWH I'm not ruling out a handsome profit for the operator! And based on volume consumption given the low cost!

See thorium in five minutes.
