If modern existential death has a face, that face is clearly outlined in the TV series White Lotus.

Yes why do you watch such crapp? But then again watching of listening to the news is exactly the same thing - Skyhooks- horror movie the six-thirty "news".

But Christian-ism is a death denying religion. All Westerners including all Christians systematically eliminate death and suffering from their view. Western philosophy and "theology" is the always-wanting-to-forestall-the-day philosophy that does not embrace death and does not (really) take it into account. Real Spiritual and religious life is not based on the rejection of death. It is based on taking death fully into account, on making the fact of death the framework and the fundamental basis of your understanding of life and its purpose.

A philosophy and "religion" based on the rejection of death becomes materialism, utopianism, "worldliness". Protestant religiosity is of course very much about such utopian worldliness (either in this world or projected into the next world)
The gross body-based, materialistic disposition made into a culture, a society, politics. Philosophy and religion based on the acceptance of death - and, thus, on the understanding of this life, associated (as it is) with death, with ending, with suffering, with limitation - is an entirely different kind of philosophy and religion. It is the basis for profound Spiritual practice, for the profound surrender and transcending of separate "self".

This is not crap. It has a finger on the pulse of our society and we would be foolish to ignore it.

Dear Sells,

It is not worthwhile watching because it has a finger on the pulse of our society. Our society is omnipresent around us. We can learn about other things - the arts, the humanities, the sciences, other societies. We can speculate about changes in our society. Still seems like crap to me.
