The Anglo unilateralists strike : Comments
By Binoy Kampmark, published 20/9/2021It would have been more accurate to say that President Donald Trump's coarse, business board room model was simply too much of a shock for those familiarly comfortable with guile, deception and dissimulation.

We do deserve better Pollies on all sides, but don't rewrite the facts/history to promote your anti-conservative narrative. Yes the subs contract was signed under a conservative government, but led by two labour wets in Emperor Mal and his SA minister Pine. Both promoted this deal (against ADF/Navy recommendations) to help save their one seat marginal hold on power (which had dropped from a 25 staggering large seat margin under Abbott).
The French deal was to shore up seats in SA, no more, no less.. pure modern ego driven politics. And if you feel sorry for your socialist chums in France, what about the Germans. Japanese and Swedish who all had batter bids than the French.
Politics is dirty, you shouldn't encourage them by hiding behind party politics. The French deal should have been investigated by a Royal Commission ( or an ICAC if we had one). That contact is one of the largest contracts on the global defence market, yet good old Ozzy pork-barrelling is what that deal was!
Emperor Mal is no more conservative than Julie Gilliard, if fact he was so useless to them that they wouldn't let him join the labour party before he joined the Liberals.
