Hi LEGO if your still looking at this thread. Of course much of what you say is correct. However culture does have a large and independent impact. As you mention earlier the Chinese have on average higher IQ's than white people. However, their ancient and sophisticated culture resulted in stagnation at a time when Europe was becoming increasingly technologically sophisticated. I believe this was due to the cultural values inherent in Chinese society of discouraging free thinking while in Europe at this period they had recently thrown off the shackles of religious dogma which led to huge advances in science and technology.
I agree that it is unlikely that we will ever see the same levels of income in Aboriginal people as we do in Chinese or Indian Immigrants. However, if the Aboriginal people were to adopt Chinese values of hard work, love of education and love of doing business, they would improve their material wealth no end. I guess the question is can a people change their culture? We have seen huge changes in Australian culture over the past half century, so I think culture can change. It just can't be forced on people.

I don't know why you think that Shadowminister believes she/he is the only one with those values. Those values are held by nearly all successful Australians regardless of their skin color. I can clearly see the enormous progress made by Indians and Chinese in Australia and I can see the groups of white Australians who do not share those values going backwards. That is the point that shadowminister was making. No such thing as white privilege. Just a good set of values and lots of hard work. Unless of course you believe they are suffering from yellow and brown privilege respectively.
Incidentally, I would probably steer clear of SBS and the Conversation if you want unbiased information rather than left wing propaganda.

Hi Rhys. My reading of history convinced me that probably the most important factor in why Europeans began thinking straight, was because they were always at war with each other. War makes people think straight. Those who relied on supernatural factors to win their wars, generally lost. And the consequences of losing could be so catastrophic (vae victus) that it forced Europeans to look beyond blind faith and tradition.

Science and technology languished during the Dark Ages, until inventive men started demonstrating to pontiffs and princelings, how their new inventions could be flung in the face of their enemies. War is competition on steroids. Look at aeroplane design and advancement from 1939-1945.

If you think that Asians have higher IQ then you are on the right track. But pure bred aboriginal people appear to me to have very low IQ's, and one program on "race" on SBS even confirmed that premise. Unfortunately, to get by in a modern society you need to have a certain level of intelligence, and aboriginal people and many other black races do not have that. They then adopt dumb cultures to go with their low intelligence. Unless you think that rap "musicians" singing songs about raping their mothers, shooting gang members, and bashing their "hoes" to death is high culture?

We could ask Foxy, that, if white privilege is keeping "people of colour" down, why do they all want to live with us? Why is practically every non white and non Asian country an economic basket case? The Africans once thought that expelling the Europeans and Asians would eventually see them all equal in wealth and prosperity as their former colonial masters. That did not end well. But according to Foxy's absolute faith in racial equality, without whites to keep the blacks down, these African countries should have prospered.

People like Foxy insisted that aboriginal people should be equal to whites in every way. The result of that stupid concept was that aborigines got the right to drink alcohol. That was the beginning of aboriginal dysfunction and their very high rates of serious criminal behaviour.

Yes, while the proportion of European heritage senior managers do represent the demographics of 30 years the reality is that only a few people reach senior manager status and those that do are smart, competent and very hard working and generally get there after several decades.

While there are plenty of capable immigrants, most have a long way to climb up the corporate ladder.
