Labels are for lazy people who don't always know what they are on about; they also give a sense of belonging to something; but, most of all, labels give detractors a one word put down that saves them from having to explain the reasons for their opposition.

Adopt a label, and you lose all individuality. If you think one way on a particular area, it will be taken for granted that you have the same attitude on everything.

One belief I read recently was that the modern feminist movement is firmly based in neo-Marxism. Many feminists would baulk at being called neo-Marxists with good reason. But when you join a gang, and take its name, you have to accept that you will be lumped in with all the other malcontented Commos, and your cause will be lost in all the general screeching and demands for attention that the most people - male, female and whatevers - are sick of hearing about.
