The differences between the US and Aus are:
1 In Aus you need to declare where you live and your name is crossed off. If a residence does not have a registered voter you are turned away, or if that residence is used twice, there is an investigation.
2 You need to apply for postal votes in Aus, and these are sent to you, and your vote at the polls is cancelled. In the US postal votes were sent out like confetti.
3 The US has about 12m illegal immigrants or about 5% of potential voters in Aus there is only a fraction of that.
In other words, if in the US things were done as in Aus, there would be far less potential fraud.
