This has been the summer when we have been forced to see what we have collectively sought to avoid.

I would like the people who keep rabbiting on about solar and wind, to sit down and do some sums on an ongoing basis, what is involved in using this technology. Current estimates are that solar panels will need to be replaced in about 25 years, wind turbine probably somewhat less. Combined with that there is also a need to build storage capacity at least twice the generating capacity of the so called renewables.

Wouldn't it be better to let the Queenslanders have a couple of coal fired power stations while the rest of the country build 20 or so modern nuclear stations.

Yes. Solar panels don't last for ever, nor do windmills. Coal, on the other hand, has something like 300 years guaranteed.

Speaking of coal, how about the hypocritical ranting against the government proposal to put money into a clean coal power plant? It's OK to use taxpayers' money for unreliable renewables, but not for proven, reliable coal, which is going gangbusters in China and India where all of our once cheaply powered industry has gone.

Same place where all the renewables comes from ultimately. The people who use the electricity.
