mikk,

Please tell us which Christians are “ persecuting gays and trans gender people, refugees, muslims, women seeking abortions, anyone having sex, children, athiests, scientists and teachers”. In what form is persecution of all these people taking place? Merely expressing opinions is not persecution.

Who is “pulling” who “into line”? Are you saying that your posts are having some effect on people you disagree with?

Are you seriously saying that killing Christians is “not persecution”, but merely stopping them from from persecuting the people you prefer to Christians?

I am very sensitive and concerned about religious persecution - this is a very serious matter for one should rather die than forsake their religion.

This is why I do not approve of this crying "wolf": who will then listen if/when Christians and/or other religions are in fact persecuted?

Dear Augusto (the author),

.

According to the latest Pew Research Report, in 2016, Christians were harassed in 144 countries, up from 128 countries the year before … Muslims were harassed in 142 countries, up from 125 countries, including in 41 out of 45 European countries.

The increase for the period 2015 – 2016 was 16 countries for Christians and 17 for Muslims.

In the 198 countries covered by the study, Muslims were harassed in 142 countries and Christians in 144 – two more than the Muslims. Nothing much to shout about really.

It is not possible to conclude from this, as you do, that “Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world today”. The report clearly states (page 41, chapter entitled “Countries and Territories”, second paragraph) :

« Although the 198 countries and territories vary widely, in size, population, wealth, ethnic diversity, religious makeup and form of government, the study does not attempt to adjust for such differences ».

This means that each of the countries with tiny populations such as the Holy See (population: 799), Tokelau (1,340), Niue (1,628), the Falkland Islands (2,921) is considered to be equivalent to each of the heavily populated countries such as China (1,420,062,022), India (1,368,737,513), the USA (329,093,110), Indonesia (269,536,482), etc.

That, of course, is utterly ridiculous.

All that one can conclude is that Christians were harassed in two more countries than Muslims. The Pew Research is limited to the number of countries in which Christians were harassed in 2016. It does not indicate the number of Christians harassed.

It is possible, if not likely, that they were less numerous than the total number of Muslims harassed.

According to the 2011 Census, over 476,300 Muslims live in Australia, representing 2.2% of the total population (ABS 2012).

Islam is the third largest religion in Australia after Christianity (61.1 percent) and Buddhism (2.5 per cent). Most Muslims living in Australia are concentrated in urban centres, predominantly Melbourne and Sydney.

Here is the Pew Research Report:

Here is an interesting survey of Muslims in Australia, the US and France:

Dear Banjo,

Your comments reveal a complete lack of understanding of the matter. According to a seminal report commissioned by the British foreign secretary millions of Christians in Muslim-majority countries have been uprooted from their homes, and many have been killed, kidnapped, imprisoned and discriminated against, the report finds.

The official report also highlights anti-Christian discrimination across Muslim-majority south-east Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and in East Asia – often driven by Islamic governments. “The inconvenient truth,” the report finds, is “that the overwhelming majority (80%) of persecuted religious believers are Christians”.

Every year a non-governmental institution called Freedom House organizes a survey on the situation of democracy and human rights throughout the world. These surveys indicate that the denial of the broadest range of human rights comes from Marxist-communist and Muslim-majority countries: “These worse-rated countries represent a narrow range of systems of cultures.”

In The Price of Freedom Denied, Brian J. Grim and Roger Finke examine the face of resurgent religious fundamentalism and debate about the place of religion in the world. Perhaps the most controversial finding is that in majority-Muslim countries “religious persecution is reported in 100 percent of cases.” “Religious persecution is not only more prevalent in Muslim-majority countries, but it also generally occurs at a more severe level.”, they say.

In these Muslim-majority countries, a Christian caught practicing his or her faith in Saudi Arabia is likely to be beheaded in public; a half-million Christians have fled Iraq; and Islamists regularly attack and kill Christian Copts in Egypt and burn down their churches. This goes without saying that the Islamic law known as Sharia prescribes the amputation of hands for theft (V.38), crucifixion for spreading disorder (V.33), stoning to death for adultery, execution of homosexuals and apostates (XXVI.165-66).

Islamic Sharia grossly violates basic human rights that we in the West have long deemed fundamental or inalienable.

I sometimes think that some of these polls have manipulated data.

I don't believe that the number one issue in Australia with 63% of voters saying Climate Change is the number one issue.

I honestly just flat-out don't believe it.
But I think if you specifically called electorates that you knew had a propensity to support the climate change issue you may get closer to the mark, or if you lead the people surveyed with multiple choices, then maybe.

Another issue that can't be avoided is the fact that most people probably wouldn't detect any huge climate change differences themselves;
- Which just means that the people surveyed are just repeating the scare campaign drilled into them.

And it also means that the other important issues are knocked down the list; thus under-reported and under-represented by politicians.

Democracy in 2019 is far too wide open to manipulation of the masses.
People will believe whatever crap is splashed across a tv by a paid newsreader in formal attire.
