If people 'of colour' and other minorities want self-imposed apartheid, leave them to it. Just make sure that they will be self-funded.

This is why multiculturalism fails. We have always been a society of tribes, since the beginning of time. Even the most enlightened groups , those with mixed race heritage and progressive views, still have an “ us and them” bias, as much as they try to suppress it.
It’s a cultural remnant from times when identifying with a tribe was essential to survival and for some reason that has never been erased. Posted by Big Nana, Friday, 13 July 2018 11:41:51 AM

In many ways Trump and Martin Luther jnr have/has common spirit. They both love and put America first. I would imagine Luther jnr would of detested the identity politics of the marxists.

Dr Martin Luther King was one of the finest and Inspirational Leaders to ever pound a lectern.
As was Nelson Mandella. Also after 20 some years of virtual solitary confinement, which would have made a lesser man bitter and vengeful. That their words and sacrifice could be rejected by the very folk these saints dedicated and gave their lives for, completely unthinkable. Moreover, the term man must be read as generic and applies to all mankind. That said I too have a dream, that one day no child of any race or colour will be born into poverty, unmet need or want. That someday before it's too late, another inspirational leader will lead the world to a far better place, where greed and avarice, is punished rather than rewarded! Where extreme exploitive capitalism is replaced by inherently fair and decent, (free market, private enterprise) cooperative capitalism and allowing those who create all our wealth to keep an honestly earned fair share of it. And doable, but only with (different) leaders, who do a little more than provide mere lip service to the notion of egalitarianism and fairminded fair play. And that their role is to serve not rule. Also guided by the extremely fairminded interpretation of the Christian Bible as espoused by Dr Martin Luther King Jr. and lived as a shining example by a true and generous statesman Nelson Mandella. Runner,
I would have taken it for granted that Martin Luther King Jr would have put people first, regardless. And fifty years after the Free Speech movement at Berkeley, and its push for equality of all people, including all Americans, I wonder what the leaders of that movement would have thought of segregated accommodation. How the wheel turns. Despicable. Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Friday, 13 July 2018 4:07:51 PM

I have a dream also, I dream of Australians waking up to what they have to lose if they refuse to wake up.

Yes, Individual, we are a divided nation sleepwalking to a world as inviting as the desolate side of the dark moon. And it just doesn't have to be that way!
Once the conservative side of politics were the progressives. And were responsible for abolishing slavery, child labour, and introducing the emancipation act. And a time when the stock market operated on pragmatic principles that just shared risk and profit. Not the nonsense of massively manipulated capital gain. And before the era of money for nothing, derivatives and securitized mortgages. And before we sold our economic sovereignty to the lowest bidders for the modern day equivalent of forty pieces of silver. At the behest of quisling pollies who pretend to care or possess anything remotely resembling Christian values. We went through a post-war period of unprecedented prosperity where one income could buy a house, support a family, provide a serviceable secondhand vehicle and annual holidays. This was a time before we privatised energy and still owned and operated banks, a telco, a couple of airlines and all essential service. Only sold, I believe, so incompetent pollies could buy votes from folks too stupid to see they and THEIR ASSETS were being sold down the river? Now I believe in private enterprise and entrepreneurs having a crack, always providing their representatives don't sell the ground under them. We need to de-privatise both energy and capital, in the knowledge that these are the very pillars just two, that alone support every western style economy. Then use them and the most successful private enterprise, economic model, cooperative capitalism to quite massively turbocharge our economy. TBC, Alan B. Martin Luther King was a fraud. Everything that came from his mouth and pen was plagiarised. His domestic life wasn't all that flash either.

Here's the thing. We've been going backwards at a rate of knots and by endlessly concentrating our finite wealth in too few hands. Where belligerent leaders stroll the world stage demanding increased military spending, almost as if they believe, sovereign nations can be bullied into compliance.
As we face a very real prospect of the dream of a better world, the world that combined to rescue thirteen trapped football players from what could have easily been their tomb. And in the process created invaluable goodwill! This is how it's done and without the need for aggressive sabre rattling And as simple as lifting the prohibition on the peaceful development of walk away safe MSR thorium. And using that CLEAN SAFE DISPATCHABLE AFFORDABLE CARBON FREE POWER. In the vanguard in the war against poverty, unmet need and want. As the affordable and essential power source that makes cottage industries, profitable cooperative, free market, private enterprise. And the power source to drought-proof whole nations, with AFFORDABLE DEIONISATION DIALYSIS DESALINATION! All while turning dust bowls the world over into productive food bowls. that in combination with the foregoing, lift the bottom two-thirds of the populated world out of endemic and oft times, generational poverty. Replacing that abhorrence with unprecedented worldwide, progressive prosperity. Like China, instead of being places needing foreign aid, becomes a new source of it. Plus new trading partners for the so-called developed world. And in that very process, also lifting and increasing their wealth and prospects as a win-win all round outcome! Armageddon or a thousand years of peace and prosperity for all? Chose your preference. We can do one or the other! Not both! Alan B. Posted by Alan B., Saturday, 14 July 2018 6:08:08 PM

I've read the article by this author - and it
is a concern that this is happening not only on one university campus but quite a few. Rather than condemning the students for their requests - perhaps we should be asking - Why is this happening? Is there a widespread sense that university administrators are not sensitive to the concerns of minority students speaking up about injustices on campus? Are university campus climates not welcoming to minority students? Are minority students really being "coddled" or are they simply seeking basic respect in environments that are tailored to white students' needs? Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 15 July 2018 12:03:39 PM

The very first thing we need is to be saved from the con men who have convinced the weak minded that CO2 is the embodiment of all evil.
Then we need to get rid of grand orators. A quick look at history will prove that. Hitler & Churchill between them killed millions, & Obama destroyed the future for millions. I have no idea of Kings motives, but I would not be surprised if they were no more humanitarian that the above three. Posted by Hasbeen, Sunday, 15 July 2018 2:30:14 PM

If you want to see what this migration & refugee policy will bring in 50 or 150 or 250 years, just look at Lebanon, or Croatia's recent past. Certain people, usually driven by religion just don't integrate, & will never live happily together. Bring them here or to Europe, & you are guaranteeing a new Lebanon here & in Europe.
As for aid, it has been shown for anyone who bothers to look through open eyes, that it is a total waste, or infact causes more trouble than it ever saves, even when some of it gets past the local government. Feed a people in an already overpopulated failing country or area, & all you do is enable them to survive & breed. They continue increasing their population, thus requiring more aid. Continue this & not only do you ensure more starvation in the places you help, when your capacity to do so diminishes & their population increases, but you will ultimately going to bring starvation to your own country, along with increasing refugee flows. Yes the only solution bloody cruel to these people now, but is worse for more in their next generation if we continue giving aid to keep people breeding. I am here reminded of the statement to my son, by an official in Indonesia after the tsunami, when his ship was there to help. "You go home, we don't want you". "Send money". We can all imagine where that money would go, just like the rest of our aid. Posted by Hasbeen, Sunday, 15 July 2018 3:16:13 PM

I have my dreams about a decent future just like millions of other people but the leftists manage to turn many of those dreams into nightmares.
These indoctrinated radicals aren't concerned about right or wrong, all they're after is making life miserable & ruin economies. Talk about morons' doctrine. Posted by individual, Sunday, 15 July 2018 6:20:58 PM

Foxy said;
perhaps we should be asking - Why is this happening? Again Foxy you are not aware of what has been going on. The Uni left wing academics and students have developed a hate whites attitude. Anyone who is white and not an apologist for being white is put down, not allowed free speech etc etc. It started in the US so it has developed further. Hence the Miss Southern who arrived in Brisbane wearing a t shirt that said It is OK to be white and so the lefty commentariat went berserk ! What she did not realise was that racial attitude has not gained much traction here. In the US the t shirt "It is OK to be Black" has been around for a long time. It is all lefty driven which is why it is now taking off here. You can see traces of it intruding into our politics. The trend has already arrived in our universities as can be seen by the demonstrations against certain speakers who are not left and are to speak on unapproved subjects. You can see it arise in discussions on aboriginal representation. That is a stupid proposal because in a number of generations there will either be no aborigines or we will all be aborigines. The challenge for Martin Luther King is similar to that of Gandhi. Gandhi wanted multiculturalism in India. The slaughter in the transition to the two country solution that became India and Pakistan was horrific. It's hard for MLK's people in the US- they have been there for a long time but they still haven't found their place. Probably the best option for his people is the Pakistan option- create an area within the US and create a new country for "black people" over a period of decades. There are advantages and disadvantages to this solution for both sides- one of the advantages is self determination.

CM,
You think this hasn't been thought of before ? You've heard of a country called Liberia ? African-Americans are all over the US, just as Indigenous people are here in Australia, so such adoption - apart from being quite racist, if you gave it a moment's thought - are impossible. Those touting 'sovereignty' here will realise that one day. And are you implying that some sort of compulsion should be employed ? A new form of Apartheid - that's your option ? Back to the drawing-board, little boy. Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Monday, 16 July 2018 9:12:51 AM

Good Morning Bazz,
Segregation or Sanctuary? I guess it all depends from which perspective you look at things. We lived in the US for close to ten years and saw the problems that minorities encountered. I also worked in a University in Los Angeles and got to see what went on, on campus. Anyway, here's a link that may be of interest: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/earl-ofari-hutchinson/are-separate-dorms-a-good_b_11912864.html Posted by Foxy, Monday, 16 July 2018 11:58:15 AM

Dearest Foxy,
And look a bit deeper and you'll see that there isn't really much difference -one is self-induced segregation in the fact e of what seems too big a task to integrate - and the other vile option is forced on people who are too disorganised and politically weak to resist. Each fosters racism and is a form of submission by the less powerful to the wishes of the more powerful. I'll never support anything that goes down this track - I had misgivings back in the seventies when they set up separate Indigenous Medical and Legal Services, I thought that was a mistake: require standard services to provide proper caffe to everybody, I thought. But what did i know ? So Blacks in the US and Indigenous people here are supposed to do it all over again ? Do we all have to learn everything all over again every fifty years ? Mind you, the Indigenous Industry has certainly gone down this path, with their eyes on total control of a captive Indigenous population, just as Bantustan administrations, in the Transkei, Ciskei, KwaZulu, BaVenda, Bophuthatsana, in South Africa had nominally total control over their particular captive African populations. And how did that turn out ? What legacy has it left ? Dumb dumb dumb. Love, Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Monday, 16 July 2018 2:12:33 PM

Loudmouth (Monday, 16 July 2018 9:12:51 AM) said-
(1) "CM, You think this hasn't been thought of before ?" Answer1- I'm sure many things have been thought of before but there are still significant issues so perhaps something needs to be done. (2) "You've heard of a country called Liberia ?" Answer2- Some. http://www.britannica.com/place/Liberia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberia (3) "African-Americans are all over the US, just as Indigenous people are here in Australia," Answer3- I agree African-Americans are all over most of the US, but they are not indigenous and are not the same as Australian indigenous. Indigenous Australians are more similar to US indians. There are significant proportions of African-Americans that are significantly different in mindset and appearance than the majority and founding white culture of the US so that they will never get "fair" treatment. If you let them have their own country then at least they have the same freedom to form their own country as the US founders did. It could be a bit of a stretch to say that it would become a country like Liberia. (4) "so such adoption - apart from being quite racist," Answer4- If protecting our own culture is racist then thats fine. What should we call people that want to destroy our culture- can we call them racist too? (5) "if you gave it a moment's thought - are impossible. Those touting 'sovereignty' here will realise that one day." Answer5- There are probabilities but nothing is certain except that we all should act to solve the problems we see in the world. Anyway the US until recently has had more racial issues than Australia Posted by Canem Malum, Tuesday, 17 July 2018 2:28:59 AM

(6) "And are you implying that some sort of compulsion should be employed ? A new form of Apartheid - that's your option ?"
Answer6- Generally I feel wise management is creating a system that encourages people in a certain direction for their own self interest- rather than "compulsion" (but compulsion is a fairly general term). But at the end of the day there are winners and losers in every political decision (at the moment the white culture seems to be losing). I suggest that white culture cuts their loses to maintain their self determination. I would suggest similar to African- Americans that the only way to truly have freedom is to cut their own. I would favour a split that disadvantages both sides fairly equally. Desmond Tutu had to make a similar painful compromise in South Africa. Generally people prefer to be around their own kind which is why enclaves of ethnicities have developed in the twenteith century in major western cities. If people prefer their own kind let them live with their own kind. But you can't have it both ways. You have to take responsibility for your own communities- you have to be productive in order to sustain it- you need to have law- etc. If an organisation can't control externalities then it's vulnerable. Sun Tzu says you know whether an army will be victorious based on their attributes. A country is in some ways similar to an army. And the leader of the Army or of a people (or business) is ultimately a capable servant of the people. Apartheid in South Africa appeared to be unnecessarily violent and desperate. Change is always hard on all sides. There are those resisting change and those creating change- fighting a battle to the death- what is the objective right ... (7) "Back to the drawing-board, little boy. Joe" Answer7- That's what us "little boy's" do when we see a problem Joe- we may be small but we get our hands dirty. What do you do when you see a problem? Thanks for your feedback Posted by Canem Malum, Tuesday, 17 July 2018 2:29:57 AM

Two simple rules to go by that could reshape the landscape of politics and causes.
1) Love your neighbor as yourself. If we have this then we would not be striving to separate and divide each other up. We would try to take up eachother's burdens and strengthen each other in each of our struggles. Even in our fights, and arguments with each other there can still be love and generousity even though you back a different solution and different philosophy then the person you are near. The one weakness to this approach is being conned by leading heart stories and concerns. And to support solutions that really just cause more problems. Loving alone will not make you wise, or will garentee away from mistakes. But even with those weaknesses it is the motivation to keep on striving and being a brother or a sister to a stranger and a neighbor. 2). Respect and listen to your elders and the older generation. While love your neighbor holds a lack of foresight, the rule to listen and respect your elders holds lessons and wisdom bought by experience. Modern day doesn't have to throw away the struggles and accomplishments of history that a few generations ago fought hard for, and struggled to get out of the problems of the past. Do this two rules and they will balance eachother so that universities with young minds and no experience don't wreck everything their fathers and mothers fought to build. And it also keeps the perspective to help a broken and breaking world, instead of cruelly letting it tear itself apart even more. Posted by Not_Now.Soon, Tuesday, 17 July 2018 3:25:13 AM
