By Alon Ben-Meir, published 1/5/2018

eclaring mission accomplished in the context of the continuing unfolding tragedy being inflicted on the Syrian people is cynical and disheartening at best.

To Lego especially: The sort of name calling you have directed at me indicates you, like many people have been brainwashed into accepting what you have been told by the Western mainstream media. At times this includes misinformation and propaganda peddled on behalf of interests that control it. Those who regularly check "alternative" news sites know that on news on some matters and views expressed about them may be considerably different. Then sometimes when they are, to impartial observers material from them may be much more credible than some from the Western MSM.

We have seen many instances of "how "powers that be" in the west try to have alternative news sites discredited and silenced. Including the BBC (Brutish BS-ing Corporation) and the US mainstream broadcasters do not like losing audience to www.rt.com ie Russia Today, which has offices in US and UK.

Could give a long list of alternative news sites I have watched to varying degrees. Are more I haven't. However,as with mainstream news, they often post material acknowledged as coming from other sources which can then be checked. Regarding issues such as misbehaviour on behalf of US interests in the Middle East, among the most scathing information originates from journalists who are US citizens exposing it. Including a few experienced ones who have been operating for a long type eg Some from Seymour Hersh who in 1968 first exposed the My Lai massacre in Vietnam.

For a start, alternative views on a range of newsworthy topics can be checked on www.globalresearch.ca. From it a lot of links to other news sites can also be obtained. Of course, as for mainstream news, I sometimes would question or dispute material posted on them. Worth mentioning some particularly to watch regarding regular updates on Syrian situation. www.sana.sy/en from Syria. www.en.farsnews.com from Iran has detailed daily updates of the war and www.almasdarnews.com from Lebanon has lots of short news items updated through the day. Also check www.russiainsider.com and www.fortruss.com. www.syrianperspective.com updated every few days by a US based lawyer gives some very interesting stuff on Syria

To Mr Mox.

Right wing (read patriotic) racists like myself have a very poor opinion of the mainstream media, because it is much more a reflection of socialist propaganda than an institution controlled by bankers, industrialists, and the military industrial complex. With a few exceptions (Fox News and The Australian newspaper), I have little but contempt for the mainstream media. So, claiming that I form my opinions based upon the information provided by the mainstream media is a charge more worthy of hilarity than serious consideration.

The "legitimate" Syrian government of Bashar Assad equates to an entire government run by something resembling the Mafia, the KGB, or the narcotrafficantes. It has no legitimacy whatsoever outside of it's ability to terrorise it's own population into submission on behalf of it's hereditary King Assad and his courtiers. Why you want to be an apologist for this loathsome monarchy is a question that only you can answer. Since when did leftists support monarchies? I suspect that you are an agent for King Assad, and it is you who is peddling disinformation.

The USA, which is the finest country on Earth, Australia's ally, and the world's policeman, has declared that the Assad regime used poisoned gas on civilians. And the UK and France, two more of the worlds best and most respected countries, agreed with the USA and supported this attack. You are asking me to choose between three of the world's finest countries and your little conspiracy theory, and it is no contest.

I noticed that you made no mention of the previous poisoned gas attack which was even condemned by the leftist Obama administration, probably because you knew it was true. Now you are asking us to believe that the Assad regime is not responsible for this latest outrage. That is a big ask. Most people would conclude that if the SOB did it once, he would do it again. And despite the fact that the world's democracies are sick and tired of intervening in the affairs of dysfunctional states, most people, even western leftists, applaud what Trump did.
