As a former resident of Zimbabwe I know only too well what these threats mean. They will become reality - soon. That Australia is prepared to offer sanctuary and anew life to these farmers who can add significant value to the Australian economy and way of life is to be applauded!

Appropriation is a failure, as you point out; but there is a thing called "revenge".

When you mix revenge with the imperative of democracy to be reelected, things turn stupid!

We have plenty of examples of that innovational mix in Australia.
One very recent and continueing example is moslim bashing, by radical idiots such as Pauline Hanson and her contingent, who fail to see the woods for the trees.

Even though the SA constitution has changed to allow appropriation to occurs without compensation, I think even the ANC wil not be dumb enough to do it!

Whites are now happily returning to Zimbabwe, and things are looking up for all!

Do you really think SA will kick that trend? Because I don't!

Gee, how odd to see the resident racists and xenophobes of OLO dominating comments. Not.

Australia is in need of farmers. The number reaching retirement age is
a high percentage.
We need a policy to resume from Chinese ownership, properly
compensated, land recently sold.
This land could be offered to any applicant, Sth African or Australian
on a mortgage.
Sth African farmers being experienced farmers should get priority over
any other unexperienced applicants.
We have the possibility to feed much of the world and make a quid doing it.
Somehow I don't think it will happen as our politicians are too stupid.
I mean anyone who would blow up power stations and reduce generation to less than demand !
Duh !

If the SA farmers have their land taken without compensation, how would they pay land in Australia?

Whites own 75% of farm land. Whites are 9% of the population. Not all whites own land, so it's safe to say, a very very small minority of whites own a vast majority of farm land.
Welcome aboard resentment!

The most resentful are the poor and unemployed, which is about half the population.
The ANC needs their vote to stay in power.

It's easy to pick off a handful of well-off whites for sacrifice. Especially since the stings and barbs of apartheid are still fresh, and its demise has not resulted in the riches which were promised.
A good lesson on the real value of equality! Virtually useless, and it can't be eaten for food!

But on we go. The SA government has been acquiring land by legitimate means for years, and has accumulated about 5% of farms for redistribution to the blacks. But surprise, these opportunities have not been taken up by them, since they generally are not educated in the processes of running a farming enterprise profitably and otherwise successfully.
They just don't have it!

So the question is; who is going to take over 75% of SA farms, now owned by the whites?
It's not going to happen!

This paranoia about white farmers under attack is just that. Our Government is aware of this, and can make all the promises in the world to SA farmers, making huge stocks of brownie points to boot on its home turf. This promise won't cost the tax payer one red cent, because it won't eventuate. And shouldn't eventuate, for other reasons too complicated to post here.
