Trump promotes Jordan, downgrades PLO and defunds UNRWA : Comments

By David Singer, published 28/2/2018

Tillerson stated that America’s ongoing contribution to UNRWA is dependent upon what other non-donor States who can afford to contribute to UNRWA are willing to do.

FACT 1:
The Jewish people's right to reconstitute the Jewish National Home in Palestine was undertaken with the approval of all 51 member states of the League of Nations in 1922 who unanimously endorsed the Mandate for Palestine:

Albania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, British India, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, Latvia, Liberia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Persia, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Republic of China, Romania, Siam, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Union of South Africa, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

FACT 2:
Article 80 of the United Nations Charter preserved the rights vested in the Jewish people under the Mandate for Palestine.

FACT 3:
The right of Jews to "close settlement" in Judea and Samaria (West Bank), Gaza and East Jerusalem was granted under Article 6 of the Mandate

FACT 4:
The Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) - established in 1964 - has refused to accept the Balfour Declaration, the League of Nations decision and everything that followed it considering them to be "fraud". In 1968 the PLO amended its position to claim that such actions were "deemed null and void"

FACT 5:
The PLO never had any territorial claims on the West Bank and Gaza in 1964 - as article 24 of the PLO Charter expressly declared. Their belated claim after Jordan and Egypt lost these areas to Israel in 1967 indicates the spuriousness and speciousness of their current claims.

#Yuyutsu: Do you agree with all of the above 5 Facts?

If not - point out the inaccuracies.

Concentrating on the facts - and not arrant deceptive PLO propaganda - can help you reach a far better understanding of the Jewish-Arab conflict.

Personal attacks on me are a waste of time and just show how desperate you are in seeking to delegitimise and denigrate the right of the Jewish people to their own independent State in their ancestral, biblical and legal internationally-recognized homeland.

Shooting the messenger can never erase the above 5 Facts.

Yuyutsu. Your point regarding
“Israel was created by the courage, ingenuity, perseverance, blood, sweat and tears of its people” is well taken and I agree with you. My statement regarding a disparagement with many of the ‘comments’ in Davids essays, was possibly too broadly stated and for any offence I may have caused you ‘personally’ I would withdraw. To identify individual comments, and their authors, would be too cumberson. However, your peronal ‘feelings’ are beyond my control. As a polite person it is not my intent to denigrate individuals.
Further, I agree with your comment regarding the efficacy of both the ‘league of Nations’ and the ‘united Nations’. So; in the main, we are in agreement.
What I enjoy, or prefer in these essays is the presentation of information specifically dealing with the prevailing legal mechanisms available at the time, mechanisms that form the legal framework that supports those very individuals you are refering to. It is not David who claims Isreal as belonging to ‘the Jewish people’, it is the Isreali parliament that makes that claim.
I find it refreshing when complex issues are discussed without subjective labels, offended ‘feelings’ and racist/antisemitic ‘rants’ (in my opinion) being used to counter fact based information.

Dear David,

«#Yuyutsu: Do you agree with all of the above 5 Facts?»

YES.

However, I do not agree that they hold any importance or relevance.

«how desperate you are in seeking to delegitimise and denigrate the right of the Jewish people to their own independent State in their ancestral, biblical and legal internationally-recognized homeland.»

Desperate or otherwise, the Jewish people (if indeed there is such uniform body today that can agree on anything), other than those citizens of Israel who happen to be Jewish, have no right to take over or control the state of Israel - this is regardless of what either the bible or some stupid international organisations, say.

(now please refrain from using "ancestral": that brings you into a mine-field since the majority of the so-called "Palestinians" are also from the same ancestry)

---

Dear Prompete,

Thank you for your kind remarks. I was not offended by you at any stage.

«It is not David who claims Isreal as belonging to ‘the Jewish people’, it is the Isreali parliament that makes that claim.»

Also, and I consider it their mistake. To the best of my knowledge, rhetorics like this were historically used for propaganda (by raising both memories of the holocaust and fundamentalist-Christian sentiments), lip-service if you like, where in fact no Israeli parliamentarian (including Ben-Gurion who started this tradition) actually believed this to be true.

You agree with my 5 FACTS but do not agree that they hold any importance or relevance.

That is obviously where we part company. We are talking at cross-purposes whilst this stalemate applies.

They are fundamental facts that in my opinion must be first agreed on by both Jews and Arabs if there is to be any hope of peacefully resolving a conflict which has raged for 100 years.

Dear David,

Air India has just announced that it will begin regular flights directly from New Delhi to Tel Aviv. This was made possible because Saudi Arabia agreed to have those flights over its territory.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-air-india-israel-saudi/air-india-says-gets-saudis-nod-to-fly-from-new-delhi-to-tel-aviv-over-saudi-airspace-idUSKCN1GJ24X

So you see, Israelis and Arabs are getting closer in the face of the real common enemy - Iran: it's mutual interests that do the talking. The so-called "Palestinians" and their territories are insignificant, they can't do a thing, the rest of the Arabs don't really care about them and soon they will be forgotten.

However vocal they may be, the so-called "Palestinians" have no significant military capabilities, so no peace agreement with them is necessary and Israel can easily afford to abandon them to their own gloom in their own cursed territories.
