Trump, Israel, Jordan and PLO need to define Palestine's boundaries : Comments

By David Singer, published 22/8/2017

Defining the territory within which the competing claims of Jews and Arabs must be resolved is a first prerequisite to ending conflict.

The enmity between Jordan and the PLO is nearly as close to the enmity between the PLO and Isreal. To negotiate an agreement between these two would be a hurculean task. I agree, however, that going back to the 'original' drawing board regarding territory would be a useful initial point. Perhaps then overlaying the territory using 'traditional' family, tribal, clan overlays may assist the process?

Really?

Spare us the history lesson, please.

Given the past stream of one-eyed pro-Israel contributions from this author, could a reasonable, even remotely acceptable peace proposal come from this source? What real chance is there that Jordan will happily merge with whatever is left of the Palestinian Authority's land (real and imagined) and strike a workable agreement with Israel?

No way!

Sad to say, but ultimately, peace will not come from mutual agreement - that horse bolted long ago. It might - just might - come via imposition, by superior military strength, of an enforced "peace" from an external authority. None of this is is probable while I am still alive. To think otherwise is folly.

Best for Australia to declare neutrality, stay out of the discussion and wish all parties well.

We have plenty of issues at home that need attention.

Dear Engineer,

«Given the past stream of one-eyed pro-Israel contributions from this author»

Pro-Israel?

The author is one of Israel's greatest enemies. He tries to impose his extremist Jewish-nationalistic ambitions over the state of Israel and its citizens. He has no concern whatsoever for their own well-being.

Of course he doesn't care for the well-being of Jordanians either.

«Sad to say, but ultimately, peace will not come from mutual agreement»

True, and that's because of the author's ilk, both the Jewish and the Muslim varieties.

«It might - just might - come via imposition, by superior military strength, of an enforced "peace" from an external authority.»

Let's hope!

---

Dear John,

«boot all the illegal settlers»

I so much wish it were possible:
Can you propose who in the world has the capability to do it and how?

I think Israel should define it's borders first.
