By David Singer, published 22/8/2017

Defining the territory within which the competing claims of Jews and Arabs must be resolved is a first prerequisite to ending conflict.

boot the settlers ?
"A businessman, who is the head of a large investment company in Pakistan stated: “We have to be careful if we don’t want this China agreement to turn into a repeat of the East India Company”.“Another East India Company is in the offing; . We are proud of the friendship between Pakistan and China,..”.

Trumpet is pushing Pakistan and China together southeast of Israel.

You ask:
"What real chance is there that Jordan will happily merge with whatever is left of the Palestinian Authority's land (real and imagined) and strike a workable agreement with Israel?"

Firstly it is not the Palestinian Authority's land. It is currently no man's land where sovereignty remains to be resolved.

Secondly the Palestinian Authority no longer exists. It was disbanded on 3 January 2013.

Thirdly Jordan was the last sovereign Arab State to occupy the West Bank between 1948 and 1967. Its Arab occupants remained Jordanian citizens until 1988.

Therefore the prospects of Jordan once again reuniting part of the West Bank with Jordan seem very promising - especially since Israel and Jordan have had a signed peace treaty since 1994.

No one will know until Jordan and Israel sit down and try to make it happen. Trying to come to a deal with the PLO over the past 24 years has been a waste of time.

Can't disagree with your following statement:
"Best for Australia to declare neutrality, stay out of the discussion and wish all parties well."

Bob Carr should stick to American history which he knows a lot about. His knowledge of the Jewish-Arab conflict is pathetic.

Again with the personal abuse. Are you unable to point out any errors in my article and so have to resort to denigrate the messenger and ignore the message?

The borders of Israel are defined between its neighbours Egypt and Jordan under the terms of the 1979 Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty and the 1994 Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty.

Stuck between those three sovereign States are two small pieces of land - the West Bank and the Gaza Strip - where none of those three States has sovereignty. Efforts to create a fourth State in these territories for the first time in recorded history have failed and will continue to fail.

Time for a new approach - negotiations between Egypt, Israel and Jordan to divvy up Gaza and the West Bank between their three respective States. Makes far more sense and is eminently achievable.

Palestinian Authority was shot to pieces in 2013 and the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority uses the name "State of Palestine" on official documents contrary to Israeli artillery and small-arms.

Hmmm... makes sense.
- About as much sense if I consulted with NZ to decide your future in Australia...

David Singer has omitted Russia from the border-defining process which is odd . Putin has enormous capacity for allocating assets to draw lines on maps where democratic process demands ammunition.

Sadly I doubt that will ever happen.

I suspect Israel wants to claim most of western europe as 'greater Israel"

Thats why they sent the muzo's there, to turn it into rubble and broken states.
