The ABC needs to know its place and time : Comments

By Gary Johns, published 10/5/2017

As for the ABC's Yassmin Abdel-Magied's offensive Anzac Day tweet, and her eulogy to Islamic feminism, Ayaan Hirsi Ali was right to regard her as a 'hypocrite', dripping phony indignation.

"But it wasn't Rememberance Day was it? It was Anzac Day."
Duh!

And because it was Anzac Day, it was inappropriate and she apologised. That should've been the end of the matter, but many morons on this board and in the Murdoch press thought this minor faux pas was so appalling that she deserves to lose her job or even her nationality!

"And, Australians have no need to remember or care about the groups the silly girl dragged up."
You're saying Australians have no need to remember or care about the places that Australian soldiers fought for? That's far far far far far far far far far far far far far far worse than what she said!

I don't think it was a minor faux pas. I think it was a calculated stunt to attract attention for her particular issues. Once you have everyone's attention then you apologise lest you lose your job.

This is not how issues should be discussed. Syria and Nauru are worthy topics of discussion but they should not be given attention just because someone has created a scene. They should stand or fall as issues in their own right. If they are worthy issues for public debate then raise them at the appropriate time.

It shows a lack of judgement and respect for all other social issues that need attention. Barging in like she did is disrespectful to those who are focusing on Anzac Day. Why would she run the risk of appearing insensitive when issues like Syria and Nauru will still be there the very next day.

Someone who has such poor judgement and sensitivity is a very questionable appointment to any position dealing with public policy.

"you have everyone's attention "? It was facebook and people had to go there by choice. She's odd like ABC rage and triple JJJ. Her private words were factual and sensible and Barnaby Joyce complained ? She can't be that bad..

Now that your PM has decided to go by way of the left what are you going to whine about now. Mr Abbott will not be happy.

Freedom of expression is one of our treasured Australian values: any idiot can say what they like (subject to Sec. 18 (c)). That's one of the values that Australian soldiers fought and died for, in Syria in both World Wars, in Palestine, and in Manus and Nauru where they liberated local people enslaved by the Japs.

This stupid girl is a mouth-piece for the terrorist group Hizb-ut-Tahrir. Let her keep speaking so that we can get a better idea of what they are up to. Put her on more committees !
