The truth about Israel's national security : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 11/2/2016

The Netanyahu government's linking of national security to the so-called 'defensive borders' is disingenuous and misleading,

"It is the occupation and the continuing expansion of the settlements that are behind these violent outbursts, and as long as the occupation persists, Israel will not know a day of rest."

When is the rest of the world going to wake up to this fact?

Until the so-called "Palestinians" and Arabs universally agree that Israel has a right to exist (something this author deliberately evades mentioning) there is no basis for even the first of his many and improbable steps.
He is simply denying the reality of the present situation.

The only reason why Israel exists is because the Jewish terrorists blackmailed the British into it. That is hardly a good reason, so why do you think the Arabs are going to accept it. Incidentally, why do you think it has a right to exist.

VK3AUU, by what right does so-called "Palestine" exist. It was never a state.
Anyway, your response seems to say Israel has no right to exist. In which case, its right to exist is by right of conquest ie it has defended its territory (which as you know was approved by the UN - not conquest) and succeeded in keeping it against continuous aggression. So if the Palestinians want peace, I suggest they conquer Israel and take over. Let's see how that goes ... oh wait ..
More seriously, you have commented on an article which proposes a way for a peaceful settlement of this intractable issue. The article suggests there is a way that the two states can co-exist. Any co-existence must be based on mutual acceptance that the other state's borders are agreed ie the right to exist.
Your stupid response seems to be that Israel has no right, so why would you want peaceful co-existence of two states?

The author appears to over-estimate the importance the wider world attaches to Israel-Palestinian reconciliation. ISIS eradication is the main game.

"The newly-established Palestinian state should be demilitarized, with its security assured by the US."

I don't think so.

I don't think the US would make itself the middle man in the conflict.

How about Israel also demilitarising?

"An International Peacekeeping Force". What with car-suicide bombs, stabbings, random rocket strikes and Israeli revenge airstrikes, there is no peace to keep.

The US and Europe want to stay right out of the Middle East and out of Peacekeeping.

Netanyahu needs to repent and stop expansion of settlements, even withdraw the settlements.

There has never in history when the Arabs have not been killing or persecuting Jews. If the Palestinians stopped then they would have the right to expect Israel to stop. Until then Israel has a right to defend itself.
