UN Security Council must get serious about destroying Islamic State : Comments

By David Singer, published 27/11/2015

That a Russian fighter plane could be shot down by Turkey – both members of the ISSG – highlights the continuing folly of failing to have one military force under one military commander.

Hey Arjay,
Russia's got a few EW systems.
Did you hear about the USS Donald cook incident in the Black Sea last year?
The Russians shut down the AEGIS systems with their 'Khibiny' system and completely demoralised the crew.
They Americans were there as a show of western power but were sent packing to their Romanian port with their tail between their legs.
I heard some US sailors even wanted to quit the Navy after the incident.

The khibiny system can be seen on the wingtips of the Su-34.
Ive read Russia has also deployed the Krasukha-4 EW system into Syria as well as the S-400's after Turkey shot their jet down.

There's also some other systems I've heard of, Moskva-1 and Rtut-BM and President-S.

These systems are far superior to anything the US has.

- I thought the French just went and used it as an excuse to bomb Syrian infrastucture like the US has been doing for the last year, not exactly sure they are siding with the Russians, Francois demands Assad go as well.
None of them have a right to say what should happen in Syria, its not their country.

I did hear that some other NATO nations have expressed anger at Turkey for starting trouble with the Russians, as well as another unknown NATO member recently expressing concern about Obama's mental health and whether he can be impeached and pushed aside, because they think he's lost his mind.

Yes Armchair I've read what happened to the Donald Cook. The worry is that Russia realising they have the upper hand now, may well put the Western fascists out of our misery. Can they interfere with inter- continental nuclear missiles? The temptation for Putin to put the Western Fascists down for ever must be great.

It is the Western Central Bankers who have always wanted war for power and profit. This time they may have bitten off more than they can chew.

You state:
" ISIS is NOT a threat to world peace any more than any other group of muslims."

The fifteen member nations in the Security Council unanimously do not agree with you.

They are:
The five permanent members: China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States,
and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly (with end of term date):
Angola (2016)
Chad (2015)
Chile (2015)
Jordan (2015)
Lithuania (2015)
Malaysia (2016)
New Zealand (2016)
Nigeria (2015)
Spain (2016)
Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of) (2016)

I know whose opinion I would rely on and it certainly is not yours.

The UN is not a busted flush yet - but it could well be if the Security Council does not take action against Islamic State under Article 42 of the UN Charter.

Hey Arjay,
I read yesterday that the S-400's are able to shoot down any helicopter, aircraft or missile travelling at speeds of up to 4.8 kilometers per second but may have trouble with ICBM's as their reentry speed is 6-7 kilometers per second.
So I'm not sure how effective they are.

The S-500 system is due to be deployed next year and specifically designed to intercept incoming ballistic missiles.

On the other side of the equation the Russians have been developing new ballistic missiles.
The RS-26 'Rubezh' is said to be able to penetrate any existing anti ballistic missile defense system, and may have already been deployed.

Yes it must be tempting for him to put them out of our misery.. Lol
Things do seem to be slowly heating up, and who knows where its going to end up.
I fear another World War if the West keeps pushing.

david singer, dear david, thank you for proving me right. The UN is the most corrupt organisation on earth. the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth is always the exact opposite of everything it says & does. if they wanted to fix this problem there is only one way, destroy islam totally. offer every muslim on earth an opportunity to stay in their own paradise nations, convert to Christianity, Judaism, be a willing slave in jail or die.

I know whose opinion I would rely on and it certainly is not yours. Your a lawyer, look up "aiding & abetting", treason, sedition, sabotage, fifth column & espionage. Then have a look in the mirror.

if you want proof answer this question. Q, why has Russia not been invited into both NATO & the EU? A, that might actually lead to a happier, healthier, wealthier planet.

Arjay & Armchair Critic, good analysis.

Wonderful response - all 15 member States of the Security Council have got it wrong - you have got it right.

What arrogant conceit!

As to why Russia has not joined the EU?

Consider the following:

"As Russia is a European country, it has the right to request becoming a part of the EU. The EU though, in its present form, is nothing Russia wants to join.

The EU began as an economic partnership agreement in the areas of coal & steel largely between Germany and France. This turned later into the EC, the European Community. The EC later turned into the EU. With each change, this organization has become more powerful, and syphoning off more and more sovereign state authority from its members.

Russia is not interested in joining this current form of EU, but it's not the only country with such opinions. Britain is a famous example of being unhappy with the EU, but also the PIGS countries have increasing reservations towards the EU in its current form, as it subverts the sovereignty of the respective nations.

If the EU returns more towards its original conception as a "Europe of Fatherlands", as De Gaulle put it, Russia and other European nations might be more interested in joining.

Several people here mentioned the Russian human rights record, but while it is true that Russia has still a long way to go, situations are improving a lot since Putin became President – the vast majority of human rights violations is tied to the abysmal economic situation from the 90s, from which Russia still hasn't recovered – and the general trends are towards improving human rights situations. Russia is also part of the Council of Europe and signed the European Convention on Human Rights which gives all Russian citizens, who feel their rights being violated, the right to file a lawsuit before the European Court of Human Rights . Russia has, like all other European countries abolished the death penalty."

Doing some research would go a long way to stop you continuing to making a fool of yourself.
