Who do you trust most to handle Australia's affairs when global crises of one kind or another eventually hit us?

Want to see Katter & Hanson winning more senate seats? go ahead, i would not trust Malcontent Turnbull as far i can kick him.

A Turnbull led LNP will be even worse than a Shorten led Lie-Bore government. if Tony Abbott is not restored i will continue voting for REAL conservative minor parties & number the LNP instead of Lie-Bore, last on my ballot for both houses.

the leftists knew they were playing "wedge politics" & it worked. the CINOs, Conservatives In Name Only fell for it. the leftists knew voters like me would never trust Malcontent the closet communist.

congratulations idiot, you have either already lost the next election or sabotaged the land of OZ forever with the 100% evil, "Manchurian Candidate".

No current Australian politician can be trusted; and the Senate and its unwieldy ballot paper is absurd. Don't vote for the undemocratic Senate - too many unrepresentative snouts in the trough; and boy, what a pig's trough it is.

Yes, their is too much debt, and the fools are still adding to it: buying votes from gimme, gimme voters, and slinging money at foreign mendicants and shonky UN schemes, as well as climate tricksters.

But why criticise Russia in the same context as madcap musings on the highly unlikely eventof a DD? And babble about its "eagerness to create confrontation in Syria? At least Russia is hopping in and doing what a weak America and its allies have not done.

What is the Turnbull goverment going to achieve that Abbot's did not. The PM himself is s posturing fool, and a menace to Australia. He is too stupid in relation to the Islamic threat, which he says has 'nothing to do with Islam'. His ministers are self-surving duds, who helped him get rid of Abbott for their portfolios.

Double Dissolution. Humbug! More needless expense, and the same sort of no-hopers no matter who wins.

The ranters are in. Turnbull is an inspiration for the liberals. Not so good for the Conservatives, which should create their own party instead of infiltrating what used to be a responsible govt;.

Get Abbott to head a new Conservative govt, instead of badmouthing his former party. Does he have time to work for his electorate any more.

It should always feel like election time, it keeps politicians on their toes.

Anyone that has a problem with Turnbull has rocks in their ed. He is a middle of the road polly, and will govern; for all people of Australia. Not just arce likers.

So you had best get used to it, as life is short.

An odd sort of article which neglects to say:

The next possible date for an ordinary Election is 6 August 2016 !

See "the earliest possible date for a simultaneous House/half-Senate election is 6 August 2016" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_Australian_federal_election#Election_date

A double dissolution election could be held beforehand - but the electorate traditionally don't like that and would see it as desperation by the Turnbull Gov.

A rush to an election may force Turnbull into an electoral win BUT it could then signal an electorally unpopular Abbott to contest the leadership at an earlier time than otherwise.

Can a backbencher contest a leadership, I know backbenchers call for a leadership spill.

In any case that is not even funny. Turnbull has stacked his own govt; and they can settle in for quite some time. Between Turnbull and Shorten the political landscape is in good hands.

Hi doog

Re "Can a backbencher contest a leadership,"

Yes a backbencher can. Noting Rudd, when a backbencher, replaced Gillard as leader/PM before the September 2013 election.

While the ALP has brought in rules preventing it happening again in the ALP, there is no such restriction in the Liberal Party.

But I'd say Abbott realises he is unpopular with voters. So I think, as things stand, Abbott will allow Turnbull to call an election for the popular month of September (2016). Turnbull will likely win the election.

But Abbott (love of negativity and undermining are the main gifts he brings to Australian politics) will then launch a leadership spill against Turnbull around February 2017.

Turnbull should head this off be offering Abbott a long stay as High Commissioner in London where Abbott can be cheek by jowl with all those Sirs and Royals that he worships (after love of his Lord and Master Pell that is).
