Good racism is a bad idea : Comments

By Syd Hickman, published 31/7/2015

For a start, booing people has a long tradition in Australian sport. Umpires cop it every week. Politicians have almost stopped going to sporting events because they get booed so enthusiastically.

Dear Leo,

Thanks for that.

I am grateful to have had this discussion with you.
I've learned a great deal from it.

Is it true that after interrogating the 13yr old over her understanding of the alleged slur, her sister was phoned and grilled as well?

What about the other members of the family?

Were they all lectured as well?

Onthebeach,
It was over two years ago, so my recollections are a bit sketchy. And it was a private conversation. But I think it was reported that the girl contacted Goodes, not the other way around.

Thanks, Foxy, we are all group primates and continually seek to join a group Our basic aim then, whether consciously or not, is to gain acceptance and approval of the group. You were a substantive and responsive member of the forum, and, despite the difficulties, made a genuine effort, from which you derived at least some gain. Life is trial and error, and there is a group somewhere, that will happily give you the approval you merit, even if this is not the one.

Dear Leo,

I've always been somewhat of a loner.
Not a joiner. And also a dreamer. We need
to dream ; souring imagination is the glue
that keeps our soul from shattering under
the impact of a prosaic world. But dreaming
can be a tricky business and, if we're not careful,
can disappear altogether from our lives.

I came across something that I think would be an
appropriate way to end finally this discussion.
It was written
by someone called Digby Wolfe entitled - "Growing Pains."

"Here's to the kids who are different;
the kids who don't always get A's,
the kids who have ears
twice the size of their peers', or noses that go
on for days.
Here's to the kids who
are different, the
kids who are just
out of step,
the kids they all
tease, who have
cuts on their knees
and whose sneakers
are constantly wet.
Here's to the kids who
are different, the kids
with a mischievous
streak,
for when they have grown,
as history has shown,
it's their difference that makes
them unique."

Cheers.

Foxy, thanks for that.
We are off topic so will be brief.
I read Jung for years, with intense interest, but gleaned nothing practical, which I could apply to my life.
I then became aware of the Meyers Briggs classification of temperament, available at no charge on a number of web-sites.
I found my type to be INTJ, and looked for more information. I found a blog, which, I was informed, was set up, not for dissemination of information on this temperament, but for communication between people of this temperament, Any topic was covered, from politics, to the most suitable temperament for a partner. I found it a great blog, and forget how it finally dissipated.
If you are interested, the site of the personality assessment I used is: http://www.humanmetrics.com/#Jtype
