Jordan faces looming crisis with Isis : Comments

By David Singer, published 2/7/2014

Jordan's greatest national security threat currently is neither the Syrian regime nor the potential use of chemical weapons - it is the spread of the Islamic State's ideology and the spillover of the jihadist civil war into Jordan.

Israel SHOULD be Jordan's lifeline in preventing this happening.

Israel should help the good people of Jordan and their kind king Abdullah, may his majesty live forever.
Good neighbours help each other in times of need - and it should have absolutely nothing to do with this cursed territory of the West Bank.

Dear Diver Dan,

<<...Is "who cares" too strong a word?>>

Yes.

Reading about what happens to those who fall in the hands of ISIS should send shudders down our spines. Men have their hands cut for not attending the mosque 5 times a day and women not allowed to leave their homes without a man taking them out, then too only wearing a full burqa. Anyone not agreeing with their version of Islam being executed.

If it doesn't stop in Jordan, you and I are next in line.

‘morning David,

I think the issues in the ME are much broader than Jordan. The “coalition of the willing” in general and the disengagement by the USA in particular has changed the geopolitics forever.

Many of the ME Countries that identify as being part of the “Arab Nation” ( Collectively 660 times the size of Israel) also have much to fear from Jihadists.

The Arab countries have a rich tradition of changing allegiances in an instant, they are the worlds great opportunists, which makes them all dangerous.

We may well see these allegiances change rapidly because the threats to them are changing rapidly. Israel remains the only reliable and consistent force capable of delivering military capability. They are likely to “seek” support from “moderate” Arab countries in order to take whatever action they deem to be necessary for self preservation.

Israel has been attacked by Arab nations twice previously, 1945 and 1966. On both instances the back doors of Gaza and the West Bank were opened by the Arabs. Israel this time, may well take pre-emptive action to secure the Golan Heights, Gaza, West Bank and the border with Lebanon, unless they acquire some friendly neighbors?

I do wonder if Israeli help to Jordan might involve shifting their (Israel's) army up out of the valley and onto the heights around Amman. That way neither the US nor Israel would lose the foreign fields necessary to train "moderate" jihadists.
Do they really think we cannot see cause and effect?
And the House of Saud - how tempting are they!?
